    Hi Flip.

Are you sure we Canucks invented apple pie! Oh man, that changes the whole meaning of "as American as apple pie."

I'd like to add to your list.

    26. We invented the telephone.

    27. Mr. Robrtson got frustrated with the lousy sloted screwdriver design and invented one that is still the best.(Americans refuse to use it).

    28. We still spell words in proper English. Ie: colour, night, doughnut.

    29. Other things invented by Canadians include the following:

Imax, snow blower, five pin bowling, table hockey, pablum, paint roller, pulp paper, golie mask, INSULIN, jolly jumper, trivial pursuit and also the first radio broadcast.

This list is not even close to being complete.

    OH YES! I AM CANADIAN!

ps: Lets not even mention our beer!

Beijing swept the second round and was awarded the 2008 games. Nice try, Toronno.

    Hi 68storm,
On Christmas Eve in 1906, Reginald Fessenden applied his continuous wave theory--that sound could be superimposed onto a radio wave and transmitted to a receiver that provided the original sound--in a shore telegraph station in Brant Rock, Massachusetts. The Bible and poetry readings transmitted by Fessenden, an electrical engineering professor at the University of Pittsburgh, that were arbitrarily received by ship radio operators marked the first radio broadcast, and ushered in the age of broadcast messaging.

Are we talking about the same broadcast?

Yes, Sevenofnine, its the same guy. He was born in Fergus, Ontario.

    Here's the info:

Fessenden continued his experiments. Finally, on December 23, 1900, he succeeded. The distance was only one mile, but it was a fantastic accomplishment. The first message ever delivered by radio wave could not have been more Canadian — "One. Two. Three. Four. Is it snowing where you are, Mr. Thiessen." This re-enactment of that first broadcast was recorded by John S. Belrose of the Communications Research Centre using an authentic recreation of Fessenden's radio transmitter. You have to listen carefully — early radio transmitters generated a lot of background noise.

It took six years for Fessenden to refine his invention but, on Christmas Eve 1906, Fessenden made the first radio broadcast in history. Radio operators on ships in the Atlantic were shocked to hear a human voice emitting from the equipment they used to receive Morse code. Many operators called their Captains to the radio room, where they heard Fessenden make a short speech, play a record, and give a rendition of "O Holy Night" on his violin.

    Regards,

Nationalism is one of the great evils of the world.

Besides, we all know the Greeks invented everything.

    Hi all,

Does anyone know someone named John Audino?

He's e-mailed a couple of people trying to find out about the meeting I'm arranging here in Toronto on Tuesday evening. I've never seen his name before, and I haven't seen him post anything. He was enquiring as to whether Grace from St.Jacobs would also be attending.

Anyone with any info...please pass it on! :-)

    Thanks,

I'm going to start a new thread under the heading "Meet for coffee in Toronto!" regarding the few of us from the TO area getting together over a coffee.

    Love & peace,
