We don't have TG at this end of the planet.

From all of your comments I think we are really missing out on something wonderful. I doubt that I can talk my JW family into it, and my wife is away on holiday at present anyway, so maybe I could jack up something with my friends.

In fact that is a damned good idea.

All I knew about it, was that you all ate turkey and lay around going, "oooh aaahh, I shouldn't have eaten so much!!!"

Does anyone have any suggestions for what I should do to introduce my good, down under, mates to a new annual Tradition??

Just Googling around to see what goes on the table. Is there anything that you feel TG wouldn't be the same without. (Don't say turkey, please :-)

And I'll have none of them low fat recipes around these parts thanks. I am going cook the old way.

yes matey! you should fry a turkey for them. easily done.otherwise you could bake one. use the drippings from either to make gravy.

then get a loaf of french bread chopped up, throw in some chopped onion, celery, and mushrooms, then add chicken broth till it gets real soggy , and some of your fave fruits & or spices. bake till crisp on top at low heat.

then get some nice red berries, preferably cranberries, but any tart ones will do...mix w/oranges and some sugar then let it reduce in a cuppa two/three of water till thick...refrigerate..

chop up some yams...slop on some butter and marshmallows and bake till cooked through..

smash up some boiled potatos, skin on and throw in butter, milk, salt and pepper till lumpy to the pallate.

rolls, white bread, or corn bread make a nice compliment

and last, but not least a nice pie of your choice.

That is pretty much it hoss...easily done and after your mates eat it they bloody well give thanks for all that hard work! *LOL*

oh ya I forgot...one batch of green beans chopped and steamed...place in cooking dish and then top off with lots of cheese, some heavy cream and some fried onion slivers or almonds, potato chips or all. Bake till cheese is good and melted, about 30 minutes or more.

Bugger, I tried to buy yams yesterday, but they are out of season.

Yes, TG is on with some good friends.

    Thanks Valis.

BTW, what traditions, apart from the tucker, to make it special?

Ok, it's on. Good mates, good food, good wine, and a really nice German couple, that are leaving NZ on Friday, to share it with as well..

We are going to Kiwi the menu a bit as we have fresh HUGE oysters that one of my fishing buddies gathered a couple of hundred miles away from here. Thank God for worldly associations. :-)

While I'm at it Valis, I am just back from a four day fishing trip. I got the biggest, a 15lb snapper. My mate, (who brought us the oysters), had a large Mako on for about ten seconds. He wasn't rigged up for sharks at the time. Oh boy, did that reel scream.

awesome..that should go well with your Thanksgiving feast. I love fishing and have only been out sea fishing once in Mexico for sail fins & baracuda.

a lot of people will do a bit of charity work during the holiday to help the less fortunate or also go on a marathon to raise money for a cause. And then again some like to just be with their friends, eat and watch the game. As long as you have people around that you care about I think you will have a Thanksgiving that can't be beat.

Cheers and have a good time w/Thanksgiving.

A good tradition for thanksgiving, or any holiday really....

Make sure you remember people who may not have any families or friends close. We always go out visiting to our friends houses that are also celebrating. This year we will be inviting a friend whos mother just passed, to make that day not so sad as it would be.

Valis, we always include deviled eggs, potato salad, three bean salad, baked beans, and dont forget the coffee. We like to mix ours up with a little irish cream. Erin Go Bragh!

    Happy Turkey day to all!
