Hatha yoga VS Tai Chi

    Hello!

So, I'm finishing up an introductory yoga class in a couple of weeks and am contemplating which direction I want to go in after this (besides, of course, contemplating my chakras..haha). Between my work, "real" classes and gobs and gobs of glorious sexual experiences with beautiful women I probably only have time for one "extra" pursuit in the physical-spiritual realm. I've enjoyed yoga -- it's worked well for the mind/body -- but am flirting with the idea of Tai Chi.

For those of you who have done both -- Hatha Yoga and Tai Chi -- what would you say are the primary differences in terms of mind/body results? Or, if you've only done one or the other, relate what it's done for you. Hell, lets just make this the ultimate Yoga and Tai Chi thread!

The wise man lets go of all

    results, wheter good or bad,

and is focused on the action alone.

    Yoga is skill in actions.

Ever considered bellydancing? We had a man teach at a seminar I went to a couple of weekends ago...it was AMAZING what that man could do with his body, at one point you could hear a collective orgasmic sigh sweep thru the entire room of women...yea he was that good

Well, that generally happens whenever I enter a room of women anyway. Why just the other day....

Coincidentally, I've just nipped in home to get changed for my evening TaiChi class.
I've only read about yoga, so I can't make the comparison that you desire.

However I will state that there are various forms of TaiChi, from the spiritual and healing to the martial types.
The form I do is "Old Frame Chen Tai Chi Chuan", which is the most ancient and martial of them, though they all contain aspects of the three main areas. The newer Chen styles are more elaborate, and I like them, but I'm still partial to my 64-move long form. I hope to start learning the "Cannon Fist" form next year, which is faster and even more martial. It's also a little shorter than the current ten minute routine.

As a form of "energy work" it is excellent, and I'd recommend it to anyone!
I actually took it up for stress relief, just prior to separating from my wife.
It has given me far, far more than just that

    Gotta go...

LOL ... Ok that's what I know about it (comes from my son for the details) :

yoga is a relaxing method and Thai Chi is a real martial art (even if it doesn't look like - but it is made to practice muscles on low speed (very effective) and flexibility (specific martial art positions - taos) it's way more useful than yoga, cause it does the same on the spirit and works on the same physical axes (you only focus every or some part of your body and movements and nothing else and it helps to release the mind on everything else) ...

And when you see and old asian working out his Tai Chi ... Look closer at his gestures cause they might not be as simple to do as they seems to be (and moreover on low speed) ... and for the masters some positions they can take and stand very long on low is speed is just incredible. they are dedicated to give real punches or kicks from a few inches of pressure without taking any run_up ...

But as I can read how women do react to a belly dancer teachers ... Well you might try this one

    Little Toe,

Question: Does the "martial" aspect of your practice require to you actually exchange blows, or is it similar to "shadow boxing"? The reason I ask is that I am unable to wear contact lenses (I can bear them for about ten minutes, tops) and therefore don't feel I could engage in combat w/glasses on.

As for yoga...you should definitely try it Ross.

when did high-dollar prostitutes become legal south of the border?

I'm studying Aikido and would recommend looking into it. The Martial Art highlights being relaxed, centered, and using Ki [your uke's Ki actually] to execute moves.

You have an EXCELLENT opportunity to see the best practitioner of the Aikido in your area on 11/26-28.

    There is a seminar here:

    3652 North Lincoln Ave
    Chicago, IL 60613
    773-935-2334
    [email protected]

    http://www.asu.org/chicago/

It's taught by Mitsugi Saotome Shihan, who trained with the founder of Aikido. He's a 70 yr old Japanese man and practices amazing Aikido with no more effort than looking at your watch. It's all in the Ki. I went to a 2 day seminar a month ago, and it was amazing.

You would find it an honor to step into the dogo and observe a part of his seminar if even for an hour. Call them up and see if they allow observers. You won't regret it!

    Best,

    Paul
