Have you ever taken an IQ test? I just did one for school - pretty interesting kind of test. I scored a 134 , but have to admit that I don't know how accurate a test this one was. I'm sure I'd score much lower on the Mensa exams - therefore - I think I'll just keep this cheasy result and tell everyone I'm a genius. (ha ha)

How many here have taken an IQ test? I'm kind of interested in this now that I had to endure one.

I took one online at a site...went through about 10 pages of it and when it was finished, the site screwed up and it didn't email me my results. I was ticked.

I took one in elementary school. It took many hours over the course of two days. Lots of people knock IQ testing, but it was beneficial for me.

I took one in fifth grade. From what I know about the test, the global score is not as meaningful as the scores of the individual subtests that comprise the test. There you would see your strengths and weaknesses. But all of these is averaged together into the final score.

The one supervised IQ test that I can remember* taking was the entrance test for Mensa, which I sat in 1993. I literally had to have a lie down in a darkened room afterwards

*I probably took one in early elementary school, as I remember being 'seen' by an educational psychologist at the time.

    Hi Dawn,

There are different IQ tests. The cattell B test requires that you score 148 in order to be within the top 2% of the population (which is the requirement for getting into mensa) Other tests require a score of 135 or over to be in the top 2% - so it does depend on the test.

    More info at www.mensa.org.uk

Many people think they wouldn't get into mensa and they actually would! There are thousands if not millions in the UK who would get into mensa if they just took the test (and wanted to get in of course!)

We briefly covered intelligence tests in intro psych..

Basically, the scoop is that on-line IQ tests are 99% bogus, as real IQ tests are protected and owned by companies who don't want just anyone getting their hands on them. As for the accuracy of IQ tests, the most accurate IQ test I know of to date is the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS)...for children, it's the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC). Something to note about child IQ tests is that they are compared to the average intelligence score of children of the same chronological age to determine if the child's development is above or below normal development. With adult testing this comparison isn't made quite in the same way. Adult testing is considered very accurate...but always remember, psychology is under constant revision, as should be any scientific field of study that uses empirical data to draw conclusions. Personally I am beginning to disfavor psychology in terms of a 'real' science...but I won't get into that, too off-topic. :)

I am sick and tired of hearing about IQ test etc, i dont want to have anything with them, actuallly becasuse i know i will fail miserably.

    BEDsides, they dont prove anything...

A test to to test if you have what it takes to become a dentist, bricklayer or lawyer is more practical.

btw a known antropologist concluded that the most "intelligent" (whats that?) humans beings are native Australian, go figure.
