I don't believe in the virgin birth, immaculate conception or that Jesus was God's son.

I've read too many books showing the exact same story from other cultures, 28 different ones as I recall. Same story, but much earlier than the Jesus story.

    Hmmmm, which came first

    Dear Gawd Mulan...

I don't believe in the virgin birth, immaculate conception or that Jesus was God's son.

You unholy blasphemer...the stuff that comes out of your mouth sometimes...It's easy to see Jehovahs spirit is not with you, talking nonsense like that...

What does it matter? No more significance than whether He was impaled or crucified! Dumb diversions from more important issues..

I think it might matter if you question "christianity" being based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, the son of God. OR was the just an illigetimate child? If his birth wasn't truly divine, maybe he wasn't either. I guess that is the question.

Mulan, then of course the other option is to believe they were all virgin births! Seems logic would dictate that the more often it occurred the more likely it is to re-occurr. More unbelieveable if it only happened once in all of history. Generally mammals do not successfully reproduce by hermophroditic events. Many lower animals do. I once had a goat when I was young that gave birth without ever being bred. The kid was malformed and died within a couple days but it was a successful birth.

There are many stories of virgin births outside of the mythical mirical men of non-Christian origin. They almost always result in still births. Who knows! Still don't think it means squat!

If she were my fiance, I'd like to see the paternity test results. But I'm figuring the "lady" would have a bit of a hard time trying to get a tissue/blood sample. Like a couple of posters mentioned already, there's a good deal of legend and myths lifted from past cultures in the virgin birth story.

Being less profane for a moment : Assuming there actually was a 1st century girl called Mary who ended up pregnant illegitimately, a book by Bishop Spong gives an interesting take on how society is supposed to treat them and their children and other disenfranchised people. So I wouldn't trsh the whole thing as being without some take home message. I hope this isn't too obvious an attempt to hedge my bets ala Pascal.

    She was a tramp...

Not really sure how carmel can think this isn't important... if mary was just some hoochie momma then christianity is just a butt load of fecal material! On the other hand if mary got knocked up by god then maybe they have a case yes!?

Lots of myths about virgin births but how many myths about girls getting in a "family way" by gods? More than a few I'd wager!!!!

I like a phrase a poster on here used once about analyzing parts of the Bible: "It's parsing a myth."

There's been so much written to debunk the Bible that it's a waste of precious time anymore, imo. There are so many true things to consider and learn. Unless you're reading the Bible purely for any historical value there may be, but it's woven around so many untrue things, it's hard to tell.
