The girl that I'd gotten DF'd for being with wasn't even given any reproof and we had the same story.
I can't tell you how many times I was approached privately and asked about this kind of unequal treatment over the years. It seemed to happen most often when the two parties to the "crime" were in separate congregations. One body of elders would be more lenient, the other would come down hard with both feet. The result: one in, one out, both "guilty" (or not) of the same infraction, and a lot of confused on-lookers. Just one example of how flawed the JW "judicial" process is.
Its funny,i always thought of the Appeals procedure as being totally at odds with "spirit appointed decisions".
After all,if the the Decision has already been made in Heaven BEFORE the original JC ,or bound whatever, and the Elders are just confirming Gods Decision then its gotta be right.Right?
Wrong.Quite clearly the whole procedure is a Farce.
I know of one situtation where a disfellowshipping was appealed and won..
I actually was called to come in an testify against the individual since I had witnesses the act.. but it was two of us (my sister and I) they asked, and this guy and his brother denied the one 'twin' was involved.. they had both been dfd for smoking pot, but then one later tried to get out of it.. it was two witnesses against two.. so the disfellowshipping was over turned....
I was upset because I never wanted to talk to them about it in the first place.. and the father was in the meeting and raked me over the coals trying to question my personal life (which was not at all involved.. or on the topic) to try to discredit me.. it was a horrible experience.. and a waste of time because the truth didn't even come out.. (although years later the twin admitted to his sister they had lied... go figure)
