I had some issues with our comcast cable isp, but they finally got worked out. For us, cable is much better than DSL because we do really notice a difference; all my kids are online a lot, and my husband does a lot of intense online gaming, as does my son, and my husband sometimes does a lot of programming and conversation stuff that would be much slower using the dsl. The truth of the matter is this: all services are NOT equal in all areas. I know people that love Earhtlink DSL or Verizon or SBC and those that hate it. I know some that love comcast, and some that hate it. I have found that it depends on their area. You should check out broadbandreports.com. It is a pretty useful site in seeing what is available in your area. I think DSL would probablly be fine for your family. Like one of the earlier posters said, there are a lot of people that won't notice the speed, or even need it if it does work. Be careful though: some DSL providers require that you sign a yearly contract, so make sure you investigate how well they perform in YOUR AREA. check the reviews online by people that live in your are. Ask your neighbors what they are using etc. Good luck!
