    Spot the contradiction:

"The reason we go door-to-door is because Jesus went door-to-door and he told us to do it," said Cathy Lou Pogainis, a church member at the Kingdom Hall in Glenwood.

    and

Jehovah's Witnesses are not required to participate in door-to-door work but those who do learn how to talk to people about God's hope, Pogainis said.

PS: BTW, what are the Scriptures that say:

    1. That Jesus went door-to-door?

    2. That Jesus told people to go door-to-door?

I wrote a letter to the editor on this article. If it gets published I will post it. In effect I told them that I am all for freedom of speech but I don't want them sending potential pedophiles to my door. I wrote about a child molester that was just released from prison in May and how if he wants to REMAIN a JW in good standing he will be required to go door to door. I don't want him at my door!

Not to rock the boat but blodie may be wrong. And article a few months ago said thatyou should only go d2d if you are whole hearted about it. Which oddly means if you don't like d2d your suppossed to stay home. Oddly since reading the article I adopted this stance and nobody has called up on me. BTW oddly the annionted are required to preach btw. Most articles really try to instill guilt to everyone that doesn't by say "but don't you wana engage in a life saving work?". My answer is if i wanted to do that I'd become a paramedic or a DR. Some people are not motivated by altruism alone.

    XQs -

That's very interesting. Could you cite the article and supply the quote, please? Thanks.

And if one is not required to go door-to-door, is one required to do mall witnessing, telephone and/or letter writing ministries? Because we all know that an active publisher has to put in at least 15 mins. per month, right?

Neo's request for the applicable proof Scriptures was astute.

To be honest........you can still go to the meetings and not be df'd or da'd and be considered a jw if you don't go door to door. You are simply considered "inactive" ....... lots of jws are doing it.

And anyone who tells the elders this will be immediately "marked" as apostate.

I'd like to see that quote, too.

EW I agree with you the WTS has always liked to promote activities that can get you DFed if you actually stand your ground. Allows the rest to huddle together for warmth sorta speak.

But I notice that the elders seam to use "You mean you did not talk to ANYONE about Jehovah this month? Not even 15 minutes?" Usuually every JWs can fudge yes. The elders then ask for you to record that time (to keep you in the active slot) and try to work you up to a full hour even if it mean talking or reading to impressionable children. THe thing is truely if you are a remotely practicing JW now days it is hard for them to claim d2d is a requirement.

And to be fair yes if you show that you don't like d2d they try to nudge you into more obscure witnessing including spamming,, junk mail, and telemarketing (its fun having double standards ). You know if you wanted to you could just lie and write a modest 5 hours on the time slip the elders will never ask why only 5 ir check to see if you actually do it.

They just ignore the regular community accepted meaning of words... so, 'not required' is true in the sense that noone puts the proverbial gun to a person's head saying 'I require you to accompany me in the D2D work...'

...but they do say things liker 'if you don't go on the D2D work, you are putting a figurative gun to your own head by displeasing God and denying the obligation Jesus put on you to for forth and preach'...

I think the community would take that as 'required', but the JW can say it with a straight face and almost believe it themselves... all they do is redefine words to suit their version of truth.
