There is a syndrome with diet soda: the sweet taste triggers the body to expect carbs coming. When the body doesn't get those carbs, it feels like it's being starved, so one end's up eating more.

I am not a soda drinker. I never liked it.

I don't take any prescriptions. I am not a milk drinker, (really really don't like milk) but I take calcium supplements. (by the way, your body will not extract the calcium from milk...........just a little fact to file away, girls...........the calcium molecule from cow's milk is too large to be absorbed by our human systems)

I have no problem drinking water. I like water and have it all day long.

Everyone's suggestions are so good. I just wish there was something I didn't already know.

I am a Lifetime Weight Watchers member, since 1974, and go about once a year to keep up. Their old plan worked for me, but the new ones, with counting points has only worked in a very limited way for me. Unfortunately, I've thrown out all my old WW stuff, or I would get it out and give that plan a go again. Maybe I can remember it.

    B12 shot daily,

I can appreciate why this works - the B-12 bypasses the processing and is put right in your system. It gives a person energy. I was using it for Chronic Fatigue Syndrom because my body was not processing food well. B Complex helps reduce stress and fatigue, too.

However, you can ask the diet place how many units they are giving you, and then go to your doc and ask him for an Rx. You can give your own (in your thigh, intramuscular) at about $50 or less per month including needles.

Well, my 1st sugestion is to trade that treadmill in for something more fast-paced and less boring. What I do is, I have an Elliptical machine.

Sorry, no can do. I hate the eliptical machines. I used them at the gym, and could barely last for two minutes. I was out of breath and my legs felt like rubber. The trainer told me not to do that one. (I think she thought I might have a heart condition............I don't, had that checked too) I have a slight asthma, and it seemed to be too much for me. It really made me mad because one of the ladies I talked to all the time is in her 70's and spends a good 40 minutes on that machine. I can do all the others, but not that one.

The treadmill is a good one for me. I like it and will actually do it. It gets me moving. I don't see why everyone says it isn't enough. It's SOMETHING. I haven't been on it for a few months, but I will again soon.

Treadmill works great for me. I run 2 miles on it at the gym before I start my weight lifting routine. I've never been much for diets, the wieght always seems to come back. I find just eating sensible and exercising to be the best thing to do.

May I also suggest you and your husband get a couple of bikes and start riding around the neighborhood this spring. I love riding bikes, especially mountain bikes and I'm getting a road bike for Christmas. There's nothing better than feeling your heart pounding in your chest after a long climb.

Remember, losing weight can be allot of fun. It makes you feel better about yourself, if you go to a gym you get to meet new people (that's how I met my wife), and no matter the results a least your doing something about it instead of just talking about it.

All of this reminds me of a talk I heard when I was young. The speaker was saying how exercising and going to a gym could lead to spiritual weakness. I remember thinking to myself "Man, now I can't even lift weights". I'm so glad I'm out of the mind control system.

I needed an exercise that would get me moving, and yet be gentle on my joints. Believe it or not, hula hooping is a great exercise! Gets me moving, is great for the lower back, and it has given me curves I never thought I would have.

The Walmart variety do not work, even as a kid I could not make them go. Some upscale health clubs are starting to advertize them, but I made my own. Go to a hardware store and get 12 or 13 foot of 3/4 or 1 inch black underground sprinkler hose, and a connector. Hook the ends together, and voila! To make the hoop slip proof, I wrapped some cloth tape around it.

It does take a bit of practice to make it fly, but that is the fun! It is so goofy, that one can't help but smile while learning. Music makes it fun, too. Just be careful the first week. You will have sore obliques, and paunch. After a few weeks or so, you will see a change! Also, your back will be more flexible.

Here is a good intro site that talks bout hooping - http://hooping.org

    Mulan,

I have go to right quick, but go to Amazon.com & check out the top 3 books sold on there about Thyroids. One is called Thy Thyroid Solution, for sure. It is very misunderstood & underdiagnosed in women. If you do have these symptoms, go to an Endochrinologist, even if your insurance won't pay & you have to just pay for it yourself. Doctrs often aren't taught much about any of this, it is just skimmed over & women suffer as a result. Do it, your doctor is just going off his understanding of numbers, not by your symptoms!

My body just wants to hold onto my weight.

So............am I being silly? Should I just accept my overweight body? (I am trying to do that, really) I am 59 years old and really accept that part, so why do I care about being thinner? I ask myself those questions all the time.

Marilyn you can call me a fruitcake but I really think subconsciously you (we) are programed for some reason and that reason is yours to undertake why. I honestly feel we hang on to our weight as a defense mechanism and have read much in physiological journals to support this. Also one chiropractor I went to did some mind/body work with me and pinpointed the age I started having weight issues.....4 years old! Anyway I really believe this stuff and had a recent break through.

Yep I think the curse has been lifted for me!!!! I recently saw my X and he was the one who really played mind games on me and my daughters concerning weight, long story and I won't bore you but HE HAS GAINED A LOT OF WEIGHT!!!! I almost didn't recognize him and it was immediately and I mean immediately I had this feeling of immense relief seeing him fat. I can't explain it but it has been going through my head now ever since that I no longer have to hang onto fat, weird I know I'll let you know how it goes in the months to come.

Ok that said I also don't think that just because of my revelation I will start dropping pounds like some kind of miracle. I know I have to work at it, diet, exercise and all that it's just now I seem to have a purpose and an inner knowledge that I'm finally free of whatever hold that man had on me, weird I know.

So for me it's going to be less calories in more energy out the age old method of losing weight not any fad diet, just life long changes. And I can hear my bike calling to me like an old neglected friend who I intend to get reacquainted with again.

Cheers to ya Marilyn I'm sure you'll find what's right for you and I'm with you on the treadmill thing, just start moving as your body adjust add ankle weights for more resistance see if that helps.

Thanks Kate. I think you are onto something there. When we first left the WTS (mentally and emotionally), I dropped a lot of weight. (54 pounds in 4 months) I didn't need to lose that much, but it just fell off of me. I used to say I let go of the guilt. It stayed off for about three years, and then started coming back with a vengeance.

but go to Amazon.com & check out the top 3 books sold on there about Thyroids. One is called Thy Thyroid Solution, for sure. It is very misunderstood & underdiagnosed in women. If

Thank you. My mother has Grave's disease (should say she had it) and had treatment to kill her thyroid. She has never had a weight problem though, until she got that disease, and her weight started to drop drastically. Now she is on Synthroid and doing great. I keep threatening to swipe some of hers, but she needs it.

Hula hoops sound fun. I used to be really good with them when I was in sixth grade.

May I also suggest you and your husband get a couple of bikes and start riding around the neighborhood this spring

I hate to sound like such a wimp, but I can't ride bicycles or regular exercise bikes. I have a bad low back and the position you sit just kills me.

The treadmill is a good one for me.

Me too. But I make it a brutal workout in that I hit my target heart range and stay there for 20 minutes to 30 minutes. It's helping. Also, because it can be boring, I check out audio books from the library to listen to while I'm on the treadmill. You'd be surprised how many good books you can get through while burning fat.
