My 20 year old son has joined this Church with a friend and i don't know anything about it. I know i can look it up on the web but i am wondering if anyone here knows of the Church personally. I am very leery of any organized religion i am sure because of the JWS crap and am worried what my son is getting into. If you know of anything of this Church please let me know so i can either encourage him or discourage him from making a mistake . I have no problem with him wanting to believe in God if that is what he want's but i will not stand for him unknowing getting trapped in a cult .

I went to an Alliance Bible Church in college at the recommendation of a friend. Very friendly, and non-denomational. That was a while back though...if you want to make sure your son isn't in a cult like the JW, contact a great organization for that, Watchman Fellowship. They're located in our area and they were a great resource for me when I was leaving the JW's.

The CMA link that Blondie brought up is the same denomination I attend now. I like them. But I am not sure if that is the same thing as Alliance Bible Church....

Silly me, how could I doubt Blondie? It looks like it is the same denomination.

It might help, KLS, to teach some basic signs of a cultic organization, so he can spot them and avoid them himself. The rule of thumb I use for any cultic organization/fad/campaign is when I see the words, "Expect resistance from family and friends." As soon as I see that, I take off, reject, avoid the message being crammed down my throat. Why would any legitimate campaign suggest that those who care for you most are against your best interest?

When I went, that was while I was in college. My friend asked me to go, so I can't speak of its origin. Then I moved back home and got involved in the JW's. When I was leaving the JW's, I was so scatterbrained. That's why I mentioned Watchman Fellowship, they were able to show me that the JW's were indeed a cult! Some groups may not be labeled as "cult", but may be fringe groups or what they call "borderline cults."

jgnat, I got it from 2 websites of Alliance Bible Churches. I get the feeling that each church is independent and takes what they need from this central group. I didn't get a bad vibe when I looked at it. But then as ex-JWs we are a little senstive to anything that might seem similar.
