Monty Python & Fawlty Towers were, IMO, the best comedy ever produced by the BBC.
A close runner would have to be Only Fools and Horses, though I doubt if it would travel very well.

Actually, I grew up watching Benny Hill and routinely rolling on the floor laughing my childish ass off. I love British humor...hey, some of my favorite posters are Eman and Expatbrit...nothing like that dry, tongue in cheek, sarcastic, wittiness the Brits have...
