Why They Quit Celebrating Christmas.

This from the Proclaimers Book, page 199.

When shown ( Who showed them? ) that celebrating the birth of Jesus had actually become of greater interest to people than the ransom provided by his death; that the revelry of the holiday and the spirit in which many gifts were given did not honor God; that the magi whose gift - given was being imitated were actually demon - inspired astrologers; that parents set an example for their children in lying by what they told them about Santa Claus; that "St. Nicholas" ( Santa Claus ) was admittedly ( who admitted this ) another name for the Devil himself; and that such festivals were, as acknowledged by Cardinal Newman in his Essay on the Development of Christian Doctrine, "the very instruments and appendages of demon - worship' the church had adopted ---------- when made aware of these things ( who made them aware ) Jehovah's Witnesses promptly and permanently stopped having any part in Christmas celebrations.

So, let me get this straight, from 1919 ( when they were supposedly selected by Jesus as the Faithful and Discreet Slave,) they continued this demonic practice of celebrating Christmas until a member of Christendom, Cardinal Newman and not Jesus, showed them , made them aware, some seven years after Jesus saw fit to select them as his Slave, that all this time they were celebrating a demonic holiday.

Who is lying to whom? Stop blaming the parents and everyone else for your own blatant bold faced lies!

    Blueblades, MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

There's a Christmas song that says "Christmas is for the children." I think those mean old mysoginistic homophobic old men in Brooklyn really and truly dislike children too and are bent on making sure they have no fun whatsoever. I mean, not only can they not celebrate all the happy holidays of the year that cater to children, like Christmas and Halloween, but they are made to dress up like little adults and sit still for two hours -- which is TOTALLY unnatural -- several times a week, not to mention all day at assemblies.

    Get over yourselves, GB!

Christmas? pagan roots have been known for centuries. As mentioned on another thread the Puritans did not celebrate Christmas as they saw it as an unchristian holiday. There have been a number of other Christian religions as well that did not celebrate Christmas.

The Proclaimers Book makes it sound like this was ?new light?. I guess they think this lets them off the hook for all the years that they did celebrate Christmas.

A JW in one of the Yahoo chats freaked out when they actually heard that "Santa Claus" was the Dutch name for "Saint Nicholaus", a real person that gave gifts to the poor in pre-Constantine Rome and not an anagram for "Satan".

    Saint Nicholas was not Dutch.

Here is a good website to learn about the origin of what is not seen as Santa Claus, http://www.stnicholascenter.org/Brix?pageID=38

The true story of Santa Claus begins with Nicholas, who was born during the third century in Patara, a village in what is now Turkey. His wealthy parents, who raised him to be a devout Christian, died in an epidemic while Nicholas was still young. Obeying Jesus' words to "sell what you own and give the money to the poor," Nicholas used his whole inheritance to assist the needy, the sick, and the suffering. He dedicated his life to serving God and was made Bishop of Myra while still a young man. Bishop Nicholas became known throughout the land for his generosity to the those in need, his love for children, and his concern for sailors and ships.

The Dutch did bring Santa Claus to the Americas, they called him Sinter Claus.

I didn't say he was Dutch, I simply said that his name derived from Dutch words. There was no Holland during the times that Saint Nicholas lived in.
