Personally I'm very tempted by LCD/DLP projection TVs. I can buy a 60" LCD projection TV much cheaper and it'll have a longer life compared to Plasmas... yet the picture still looks stunning. LCD projection TVs are still pretty thin...less than a foot deep, and are relatively light. They also don't have any of the problems of the older projection systems, like convergence or burn-in.. important if you want to play video games on the TV. :)

My only concern about LCD is pixelization. My perference is plasma, but Bryan like you say the heat (and picture burn out) is a concern. I've heard, and I don't know, that LCD doesn't work as well on fast-moving pictures such as sports.

Is any one model better than another? I've heard of Philips, and I've seen Samsung on sale, but I know very little about either.

We bought a Panisonic Viera. It's accually an ED (Enhanced Def) not HD. Which means it doesn't have the HD tuner. We will always need the HD box. Which through the cable company is only 2 dollars a month more than the digital box.

    BigTex,

I notice pixelation on plasma as well as LCD. But less so on DLP projection. Also, keep in mind that you're not going to be a foot away from the screen like you are at the store. It's less noticable when you're in your normal viewing position.

This was a very nice float from last year's parade - good float, terrible company!

    Whistle While You Work

A traditional barn raising has been a classic element of Americana for centuries ? and from the very start, hard working volunteers knew that the job could he musically enhanced when you ?Whistle While You Work.? The walls actually rise on this 55-foot long, 30-foot tall barn as the structure and the workers will move along the Rose Parade route. A special element of the decoration on this float is the ?Orange Passion Rose? which was developed exclusively for the Home Depot.

Bryan, I spent over $2K but that was more than I wanted to spend. I bought a Sharp Aquos. I love it. We only have about 10 channels that are HD and the lower channels broadcast in HD during prime time. I love it.

Good point. But I collect movies and football games on DVD. Does pixelization problems show up on recorded programs more? I realize that the perfect picture is probably 10 years away but big pixels are not a good. I'm really impressed with plasma but the cost is a bit daunting.

    Hi Bryan,

Congratulations on your new TV! I'm hoping to bite the bullet myself and finally get an HDTV soon. The only thing holding me back at this point is a concern I have around the models that I've seen in the stores - while the picture quality on HDTV shows and DVDs is amazing, the quality on non-HDTV shows is really bad. Are you finding that to be true Brian?
