I am doing a documentary for my capstone project next semester and I need your help. I am going to make a documentary with community effort to show what its like to be a JW and exJW (the audience being non-JWs who have no idea...the average person). What I need from you, is for you to submit video of you or family/friends relating their experiences. I will then edit all the tapes I get together and hopefully create a very compelling piece. Please help!

What will you talk about? What will you film?
I am trying to convey what it is like to be a Jehovahs Witness to someone who otherwise knows nothing about this religion and what it is like to leave and the experiences revolving around that.
If you are around ex-JW friends, perhaps you can get them to talk about their experience on film. Perhaps you could set your tripod up or have someone film you talking about your experiences. Show literature, pictures, etc. that has to do with what you are talking about.
Some topics you can cover are:
How you got into the religion
Sex
Children/Childhood
Marriage
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder/Nightmares/Depression
Experiences while in religion
Experiences while leaving religion
Experiences after religion
Leaving the religion
Activism (silentlambs, etc.)
Decision to leave
Disfellowshipping/Disassociation/Shunning
Governing body/"The Society"/"The Organization"
New Light and other Organizational Policy and Prephecy
1914/1975/607BCE/etc
High Control/Closed Society
Then what?
Try to use MiniDV or DVD or VHS format but I will accept all formats. Enclose the tape or disk and in addition, put in a signed paper saying you are allowing me to use your video and you won't sue me. This is non-commercial so I will not make any profits from it.
From there, I will view and edit it all together and come out with a great documentary at the end. I will try to post the end product so it is available for free, or if it is too big, I will mail DVDs to those who participated.

Another important peice of information:
I have the capabilities to edit out (put a mosaic over) a face and to change the voice (like on news programs) so that for those who are CURRENT JW's who wish to contribute (this would be really important too) or anyone who wants their identity protected, I can do this. They would just need to specify when they send the tape and I will protect their identities.
I am not sure if I made clear but I would also like to have current JW's who are trying to fade or they are stuck in, to relate their experiences as well in addition to us X-JW's. -

I will put a legal document up on the site to print and sign and send out along with the tape and stuff. Ya-know with all the legal mumbo-jumbo :)
