Just as the year was coming to a close, I decided to start a business using my computer for something more than playing video games.

I just got a response from one of my flyers! Yes, I am excited now! And scared too! I am marketing a service, which can be harder to please people with than a product!

Anyway, I'm going to be transferring home video tapes (weddings, parties, kids, etc) onto DVD. I hope I'm not getting in over my head! (I have a day job too, but who needs sleep, anyway?)

I hope this call pans out, he has a lot of tapes he wants done!

congratulations! last year i decided i wanted to freelance instead of write for a corporation, so i took the plunge. now i have three steady clients who each left in their ratings about me, and more new contacts on the way. i had doubts at first too, but i persisted and things have taken off

I hope this call pans out, he has a lot of tapes he wants done!

it will. and even if it doesn't, another one will. all it takes is one happy client, and you can build on that first success. brick by brick...

    good luck!

If he's got a bunch, do a few and get paid for a few, to be sure you both are satisifed with the quality and the price (make sure he can pay).

or have samples for him to see. those really spark interest. i always ask for 50% at project initiation and 50% upon delivery. i only accept funds in western union or paypal, so they are secure...

I wish you the best, those items are very precious to the reciever, My daughter had a tape made on VHS format several years ago. The tape itself was amazing, and it generated more work for the person that made it for her. It was originally for a 25th. wedding anniversary but it had so many pictures in it that others wanted it also. the original work was one price, then we were charged a less amount for copies.

These are just things to think about that hurt or helped my daughters project, you may or may not of thought of them, He used our music choices, we supplied, but they were not returned, so we lost some cd's that he could not locate later... We got all of our paper photos returned... but he did not use the ones she had labled. and some of the ones he used were of people he thought "looked" like me for example and were actually my Aunt ( We look similar in appearance). So in order to please the customer make sure for yourself and your own safety , Keep track of anything the customer provides and have a way of letting the customer clearly letting you know what they want and what they expect as a final result.

I agree have samples or examples of your own items or make "free" for say a friend for a family heirloom or such and keep copies of those on hand as samples. Plus gives you an idea of how many hours!! it can take.

Hope you have good results our tape is a treasure. sincerely Dorothy

    Hey, Schmideo, way to go!

I just got my fa-in-law (77yo) set up with a new computer (530mh, 1gbram, 128xxx video card, 160g hd, DVD r/w, etc) so he can copy all the slides and pix of trips over the last 50 years, create slide-shows, and translate/transfer to TV-ready DVD's to pass on. I'm a little fuzzy on the transfer technology. I bet he'll figure it out before I do. We just bought him a DVD player so he can test it out and play them on his TV. He's one kewl old fart.

PS - what kind of input to the 'puter is needed to transfer VHS videos?

    Brenda

Psst: Peace begins with me - pass it on!

    Great news CS,

Hope it all works out for you. Do you or anyone reading this know how to transfer 35mm slides to disc?

Hey, are you able to transfer my old Song camcorder tapes to DVD? If so, what do you charge and where are you? Also, if I accidently taped over one of these tapes, can you "undo" it and restore the original images and sound?
