A Perryton church suffered more than $70,000 in damage after catching fire Saturday morning. The Perryton Fire Department responded to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 701 S. Colgate St., at 6 a.m. Saturday after a neighbor smelled smoke, Chief Paul Dutcher said in a news release. Firefighters arrived to see heavy smoke coming from the northwest corner of the building, and they discovered the fire in the church library, Dutcher said. Fire also spread to the church's attic, causing severe damage to the roof, he said. Firefighters had the blaze under control by 6:35 a.m., Dutcher said. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials found suspicious evidence at the scene, Dutcher said. http://www.amarillo.com/stories/010205/new_943235.shtml
