I'm going to Cancun for a girl getaway next weekend for 3 days. I've never been to that part of Mexico before any suggestions on what to do and where to go?

Carlos and CHarlies... best bar anywhere ever. Just have fun, it's really a small place, you'll have a blast. Eat lots of fajitas and Coronas.

No expert, but Gina and I went once and had a blast. We took several of the tour packages offered on about every corner. People walk up to you jamming tour offers in your face. I don't know how you tell the legitimate ones from the fake ones. Our travel agency (Apple) set ours up so we just did those. Took a few snorkeling tours, a power boat ride through the jungle, a horseback ride along the beach, and a group of us went on a Trimaran (sp?) [three-hulled boat] ride. No disappointments at all. Would go again in a heartbeat.

About the best time we had was in a little bar behind and to the left of the Hard Rock cafe. The band played for awhile, then sat down for a break. We bought them drinks, so they came over and chatted with us. They only spoke Spanish, we only spoke English, so it wasn't much of a chat, but still fun. When Gina got up for a bit, I managed to ask one of them to wave to her from the stage when they played again. Instead, they invited her on stage and let her play the drums with them! The look on her face, such total unbridled joy as she played drums in a real band by invitation, was one of the best images I recorded in my mind. I can still see her there, so happy, having so much fun.

Save us a spot on the beach, we'll join ya'!

hey the more the merrier....I'm sure you could use the sun too....

I think we are going to do that snorkeling tour definetely....the ruins tours are an all day event and I kind of want to split up my time on the beach, maybe if we were going for a week we'd do more of that.....I think we'll definetly take advantage of the nightlife....we both dance salsa, so anywhere there is dancing would be awsome.....

If you SCUBA take a jaunt over to Cozumel- absolutely BITCHIN, especially the night dives. Everyone should experience this before they recycle (die).

While in Cozumel go to Coconutz Bar, get drunk and get pictures taken of your boobs so they can be put in the "guest" picture portfolio for the whole world to see.

Imagine "those in high places" in the bOrg when they take their vacations and see YOU in all your "God" given glory in the "guest" book!

You might even see my picture... hehehe

    HAVE FUN!

I'm certified SCUBA diver but my girlfriend is not, she's afraid of water so starting her out with snorkeling for now, would love to do a night dive though.

    ummmmmm probably not

    thanks.

I think we are going to do that snorkeling tour definetely

    Some words of Wisdom.

    1. For the snorkeling tour, try and pick an operator that uses a boat that is easy to get on and off of. The boat CJ and I went on, had a ladder type stair, like ones you see in a swimming pool, and after visiting 3 or 4 dive sites, it became more and more difficult to hoist yourself out of the water, as the steps only extended down into the water 2 steps, and the Coronas they abundantly provided, tend to make you less bouyant.

I saw a multitude of different boats including a catamaran, that had stairs from the back of the boat that made it really easy to get on and off. On the plus side our boat had a glass bottom, so we could see a lot of sealife ( Manta Rays etc.) as we were travelling from site to site.

    2. If you've been doing the "Party Hardy" the night before and feel the need to drink a lot of water, try and pee as much as you can before you get on the boat. I know of no boats that had washrooms, they expect you to go in the water... Wifey became paranoid about sharks, smelling the scent, and no matter how hard she tried she could not go in the water. I had to ask the operator for a bucket, and hold up a towel for her at the back of the boat so she could "relieve" herself.

Remember, the Coronas are served fast and furious, so if you feel the need to go, go asap in small quantities. I made the mistake of hanging on to long, and before we came to the last dive site, I though I was going to explode. I was the first in the water when we got there, (I didn't even wait to use the steps I just sumersaulted backwards off the keel) but by that time I was so tensed up, it was very very difficult to go.

btw it was Cozumel. And 1 of the ferries to get across is a lot faster than then others.

Send a PM to MegaDude if he doesn't see this thread as he's been all over diving. He can give some good advice on the better and worser places to stay and snorkle (and dive).

    (He's also single and MegaCool)
