On my "backyard rink" thread some of us were bragging about our kids. Confusedjw and scootergirl shared their kids' hockey and skating successes.

I thought it would be cool to have a thread where parents (and other relatives) could post their kids' achievements as they come along.

Births, first steps, first words, sports/academic achievements, etc.

    I'll start:

Last year, my son, then 6, got the "Most Dedicated Player Award", in his first year of playing hockey. Look out NHL...... lol

Zachary, my six-year-old, enjoys learning new things on the computer. I left him alone with my laptop and from scratch he came up with these three programs:

    Program 1

    Program 2

    Program 3

(Of course, he and I had used all the commands together, but he wrote these from his head without having them to copy from!)

Yeah, proud papa indeed! I'm SO glad he doesn't aspire to polish toilets at Bethel when he's 19!!!!!

This is a topic that just makes me smile!!! My kids are my world,my breath, and my balance. I have a seven year old who loves music, dance and is in a project for young artist. This is so funny because she is so good and mommy is lucky to draw a stick man! She has like way about her that brings me to tears. The youngest is under two and has kept me on my feet! She is starting to talk very well and is so fun.She has brought the world of Barney with her! O the fun! My kids teach me something new each day and I always look forward to that!

yay! my favorite thing in the world is bragging about my kid.

This week the thing I am most proud of is that he learned the entire Eagles fight song in one night lol. I love to see him as excited about football as I am. Cant wait to see his eyes light up when we go to the superbowl parade! Go EAGLES!

Of course this is a topic we`ll just jump right into!! We love it!!

I`m a proud parent of a "soon to be" 14 year old boy, who appears to have his Dad`s musical

talents. He attended a performing arts elementary school and was in the school`s marching

band. He has acquired the knowledge to be able to play drums, keyboards, and the bass because

of this school experience. We have been very fortunate to be able to put these instruments in his

bedroom. ( lucky fellow!) Not a complete drum set yet!! I`m not ready for that in a small condo!

But nothing brings me more joy than to be in the house doing stuff and listening to the creativity coming

from my son`s room. This past summer by his own means he purchased his first guitar, he picked a

Dimebag Darrell signature Washburn, he`s a happy guy! Now I`m just waiting to see if he becomes

    a future Rock Star!

I'm always willing to brag about my kids

My 13 year old son is in the 7th grade and was tapped this year to participate in the Duke University Talent program (based on academic achievement). Tomorrow he joins a group of high school students to take the SAT! Depending on his score, he may be invited to join some rather interesting and challenging programs. The thing that makes me most proud of him regarding this is that I left the decision in his hands as to his participation as it required 6 weeks of extra classes each day and of course spending most of his Saturday to take the test. This kid truly hates school but didn't back down from the challenge. Regardless of his score, I'm a seriously proud mom!

My daughter is 11 and also participates in advanced/gifted school programs...she brought home straight As for the second semester in a row. She's always been a good student but had some major difficulties the last two years in managing her work load but this year she has really made major improvements in her level of responsibility and organization. She also is in her third year of playing softball and has joined the school orchestra (I didn't know violas could screech like cats). I'm exceedingly proud of how she's handling all of the school work and the strides she's made this year.

Now, if only I can get them to clean up their rooms....

This is not to mention an award or a specific achievement, but rather more of a recognition of how resiliant, positive and generally beautiful children are.

I had to meet with the Children's Aid Society today due to further allegations, (from my ex-wife), of my incompetence as a father. My children have supposedly FREELY and WILLINGLY told her regarding my house/my care that I : 1) never feed them and they go for a whole weekend without eating sometimes, 2) I always ask them to get beer for me, I give them beer all the time, 3) I am always at the computer (I admit I am here quite often when they are NOT with me) and that I never do anything with them when they are here, 4) HERE'S THE SHOCKER - I have pictures of my daughters NAKED in the bathtub (along with a hundred clothed, not mentioned... they are 6,4) and my ex feels that this may be an indication that I am a sexual deviant.

The sh*t she puts into their minds is f*cking sickening!!!!

Having gotten that off my chest.... .... here's the beautiful part about kids: Despite the fact that they all give me a bit of a hard time about coming before each visit (not surprising, considering the poison she feeds them when they are with her), within minutes they are more free than they ever were when my ex and I were together. My youngest dances up a storm, losing all inhibitions that restrict her when she is with my ex. My second youngest acts out songs, books etc. and my second oldest loves to draw, read and express himself more by genuine excitement for what he is doing at the time.

Here's to strength of character that all humans have the ability to express if given the chance. Here's to all the parents who recognize and live by the fact that positive influence towards their children creates a completely free human, ready to love themselves and others.

And, quite frankly, may the people who don't recognize that, learn it soon.

my soon to be 14 year old is taking percussion...he just started this year. I am proud of him because he is working so hard to get better...just signed him up for private lessons so he can make band in high school. And his grades and attitude are better than last year...he helps me a lot with the younger kids. Master Halo2 player hahah

My 9 year old is a kooky but really fun kid. Smart too...she has been making honor roll, despite transferring in from a crappy school. Killer Halo2 player.

My 7 year old just got tested for the gifted program the school has...she is a little brainiac. Killer Halo 2 player

My 5 year old is in prk...they put her in a program for kids that the teachers think should be tested to get in the gifted program at school. I asked her recently "which came first, the chicken or the egg?" and she proceeded to explain to me that it must have been the chicken...because apparantly a chicken-dinosaur laid an egg, but what came out was all chicken with no dinsosaur in it....I think the kid just discovered evolution on her own hahah. She is killer at Halo 2.

the 3 year old...she is usually the happiest kid on the planet...until she doesn't get her way of course. She is the youngest comedianne I have ever known...always trying to make us laugh. I have been on the phone...and turned around to see her just standing there with a trash can on her head...waiting there for minutes quietly just waiting for me to laugh. Doesn't play Halo so well, but very good at Shrek Party.

These kids...they are a lot of work, but they are the best kids in the world.
