    FM,

I think when one gets awakened just little some of the ego looses it's grip. It may take a period of time but the ego comes back just a little bit less than normally. Sometimes on can make big jumps in consciousness and this has an even more crushing effect on the ego making it smaller(symbolically speaking). These changes in the egos power over the body become less,,the mind still useful don't fight death don't fight anything just surrender to the higher self. I think the ego is not a bad thing,,it just needs a tweak to think free from selfish predominately and interest a keaner desire to live in harmony with evolutition' movement in time and spaces evolution is the constant state of becoming which we call time and space,, ego was responsible for man getting to this point,,but now it has become time for it to be recalibrated for less discomfort and greater Joy.

Frankie mate. You always manage to surprise me.

Pretty deep thoughts there mate. You have said so much in this thread already, someone could meditate on it for years.

Maybe it's the pot talking. (Calling the kettle black...?)

    Thanks again.

    FM,

It is all guessing isn't it?

    Incense_and_Peppermints, quoting Carlos Castaneda:

It doesn't matter what you say to a plant, what's important is the feeling of liking it, and treating it as an equal.

Now contrast these verses from the Bible:

Now, I'm drawing a blank on this first one, but I know there's a verse where Paul calls himself "the greatest of sinners". Kind of reverse boasting, another manifestation of ego. Meanwhile:

Luke 17:10: So YOU, also, when YOU have done all the things assigned to YOU, say, ?We are good-for-nothing slaves. What we have done is what we ought to have done.??
Isaiah 6:1-13 (which I will only quote a little of here):

And I proceeded to say: ?Woe to me! For I am as good as brought to silence, because a man unclean in lips I am, ... for my eyes have seen the King, Jehovah of armies, himself!?
It seems to me that an exaggerated consciousness of one's own nastiness is not the same as letting go of ego, but quite the reverse. No, Don Juan's notion carries much more bounce to the ounce - extending one's notion of democracy and the Golden Rule to everything that exists. FMZ,
If we think about "me" being important, we will never realize our insignificance.
IMO, it's a pointless struggle to debase yourself; much easier and juicier to elevate everyone else.

Realising that we are insignificant is one thing ... but ego is needed when it's time to protect yourself ... it's all about to know when we need it / when it's usefull for ourself or even the majority ... not easy ... it happen that I feel that my ego doesn't help at all - but it helped me a lot already in many things ... so I'm not there YET give me a century or two ... even though I realised how insignificant/and sometimes helpless I am in this world ... that's why I need to protect myself actually with whatever I can EGO included !

One thing about ego-death is we always have the option of getting it back, going back to the old ignorant ways. The world would be a much better place if everyone had this experience even just once. Saying that it is a bad thing to step outside it is a statement based on ignorance and fear. It is good for a person to at least see that there are other ways to perceive the world around them, not just taking what their particular life experience and interpretation thereof has given them. I shudder to think of what I would be like had I not had this experience.

that's just being open-minded and not selfish to the point to forget about the other one ... nothing directly related to the ego

Maybe I went a bit too far on the wording... heh

FMZ, no way! LOL! Are you a fire sign? LOL.........the reason I ask, is because I AM (Leo...center of the universe stuff) and we tend to be very aggressive energetically. What prompted my Teacher to say the above was me saying almost the same exact thing you said. That's why the thread immediately caught my eye! It's deja-vu of the soul...........hehe

    FMZ,

The devil is in the details as usual, and it depends on what you mean by ego and what you mean by killing it.

To me the phrase "killing one's ego" is subjecting yourself to truth despite how that may affect you personally. Many a person has been personally harmed and suffered greatly by doing "the right thing." It means living by the old golden rule, "Treat your brother as yourself."

But it seems to me you'd have to have an ego to even have these lofty aspirations of killing it.

They also used to say that butter was good for burns.

If I didn't have my ego, my hair would be to my ass and my jock itch would be waaaaaaay outta control.
