Professional sports is all about greed . I think the NHL expanded too quickly and wound up with too many teams that couldn't show profit or filing for bankruptsy . The teams that felt they couldn't compete were the ones doing all the complaining and wanted everything handed to them on a silver platter so went whining and moaning to the league . They want their pick of good players without paying anything .

I think the NHL will be dead and a rival leauge will sop up all of the good players. The NHL players and owners are on crack and the sooner they realise that nobody beyond Canada, the northern Midwest and New England care about hockey, the sooner they will have high ratings for their sport.
Meanwhile, I'm watching college hockey. And the damn Gophs are in a slump.

The NHL wants to think that they are comparable to the MLB, NBA and NFL, when in reality they do not have the TV revenue. It is the number one TV viewing sport up here in Canada but in the US out side of northern cities, it rates way down on the TV viewing list. The NHL has never being able to get that major US network TV contract. The NHL players just don't get it, the money is not there. Plus they expanded to quickly to US cities that really couldn't care less about hockey. I understand that 30 years ago the NHL players got the shaft from the owners but in the last 10 to 20 years the salaries have gotten out of hand.
