Who said God had to be nice to anyone? I was just reading Gumby's thread on 'a big old lie' he'd found in the bible.

As far as I got reading, folks were discussing Jehovah killing everyone most of the time and I suppose threatening to do again in the future, according to the WTBTS. But why do we expect God to be nice to people? Haven't we already noticed that he just isn't. Apart from making the sun shine and rain fall on the righteous and unrighteous...his part in the old Testament tended to included a serious amount of slaughtering, including the innocents.

So why do we still expect niceness? Surely we only saw niceness from Jesus.

I guess because Jesus was written about in the Bible as being nice to everyone and then there are all those lines about a loving and forgiving Lord that had angels kill the first born sons of the Egyptians and still favored David although he was a whoremonger and murderer....and well you have a point Gill. JWs though, seem to relish the world and all the worldly people being exterminated. At least with many Christian religions they don't focus on the wrathful god.

Are we talking about the god of the watchtower or the God of the bible?

Deputy Dog --Hi! I think I'm talking about both. The old testament is full of slaughterings and I believe that the WTBTS take this as... well... this is what God Jehovah is like. Do anything wrong and you and your children are dead meat. I suppose Revelation sort of back this up...what with the body count of 'wicked people' being that big and its apocalyptic images. All very nasty an unpleasant. I wouldn't be too keen on someone who killed everyone every time they lied, or whatever. And it has always seriously irked me that innocents are killed by God because of their parent.

googlemagoogle - sorry - got a bad head and it's not working in full today. Can't think of the top of my aching head of Jesus' unpleasant side ... interested to hear what you mean.

Maybe a better question would be "Why would we not expect him, to wipe out all of us?"

The reason I have mercy, is because Jesus took God's wrath in my place

But....what's so special about you? This is not meant in an aggressive way. Just curious.

    But....what's so special about you?

    Absolutly nothing!

    Rom 9:15

For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

So it's a kind of lottery then?

And why are we needing to be saved from this very angry God then?
