I'd have been irritated, but that's just me.

    I was irritated. Pretty irritated.

Somehow I missed this, how did you know they are going to start printing Awake! once a month, and starting when?

LOL! Mulan, that is soooo something my mom would do. Some times she gives me crappy stuff and I'll find a magazine stuffed in there somewhere inconspicuous. Ha! Actually, I like it, I've been able to pick up some gems that way.... like that article on pinatas, and the Beware the Voice of Strangers WT. They don't realize they are giving me fuel to use later on.

In Mom's defense, she and I talk about my weight all the time. It's a big thing in my mind, and I have fought my weight for years, even when I didn't need to. I've always thought I was overweight. Mom gave me the magazine around the time I went back to Weight Watchers, so I think she was trying to be helpful.

    Mulan,

It's good to know that you're looking at it this way. My first reaction would likely be anger, but I'm realizing in this world, sometimes people take offense too easily. I find myself doing it more and more and I'm trying to be aware of it. It doesn't do anything but make me angry, which is a self-defeating and self-destructive behavior for me.

I really wonder who READS the mags... I mean I know people get them, but actually sits down and READS them??? Very few. I know I hated reading them.

I do love Oprahs magazine though and her new one talks about dieting, she's working out 6 days a week... really busts her butt. I can't seem to want to lose weight that badly to work out 6 days a week.

Congrats on the ten pounds! It's a life long struggle, isn't it. Damn!

I haven't seen the latest Opra - what's she doing food wise?

My mom would have done the same type of thing, trying to slip me info she thought I needed. I guess just be patient and ignore it. She won't likely change.

I learn much more watching the news and Oprah.

During the period I was planning my exit, I was home from work with the flu one day and watched Oprah and Dr. Phil, back to back. I was struck by the thought that there was more truth and relevance in these two one-hour shows than in an entire year's worth of both the WT and the Awake.

oprah's diet is she is not eating anything white and processed. Yes, she eats whole grains, but no white breads, rice, cakes, etc. Eats more lean protein, 2 fruits a day, and lots of veggies. Her workout is something like 45 mins a day of cardio 5 days a week, 3 days a week she does weights, and on the 6th day she increases the cardio to an hour and a half.

It's basically the diet we all know and should do, eat healthy and exercise your butt off.

Oprah always has educational programs, some days it's just fluff, but I enjoy it on the rare occasion I see it... but I agree that most TV is more educational that sitting through your average meeting or reading those mags. We watch the History channel, Discovery, and the Food Network. I learn something new everyday usually.

Yes there are and I was one. I think women were criticized more for carrying around extra weight. The men didn't seem to care and it didn't seem to matter.
