Reminds me of when they'd announce for the seperation of study 1 and 2 , my kids would start in on dad, " hey dad we gonna leave at the song and go to dairy queen?" lmao.
dads motivation was to be seen at the meeting , once he was seen he would often leave early. at the end of our marriage he'd leave me and the kids there and go down to his current somethin on the side and get a better snack than dairy queen ever sold. but the elders didnt know that, i figured if they wanted to believe he was poor brother **** who's wife was leaving him , then i let them think what they wanted. i still scoff at their ignorance. yup their congregation is clean..
sorry that was a rant that didnt belong.. anyway the meetings were relentlessly boring, and dairy queen was always there waiting for us!

The last year and a half meetings I attended while I still felt it was the truth were horrible. I was sleeping very conspicuously thru the service meetings,, One time they asked me to do some part about god know what and i started almost to busted out laughing on stage because I recognized how phoney everything was and I just barely managed to keep it to giggling,, Oh thank you Jehovah for never having to go again.

Some congregations might have done that if there was little support for the second school but I don't think it was official WTS procedure. In the congregations I attended, the second school was very popular. The elder tended to be more relaxed and fun. In many congregations now, there are so few people in the school, there are not enough people to have a second school. Blondie

I have also noticed that each time a question is asked (whether at bookstudy or regular meeting) that the conductor has to wait awhile for some hands to go up.
I remember the second time ever I went to the Tuesday night book study. I was new to all this and decided to keep quiet. However, the conductor asked a question which was not one of the questions that appeared at the bottom of each page. I happened to know the answer to but didn't dare answering. Finally a couple of hands went up. Unfortunately, one after the other gave the wrong answer. I kind of sat there, rolling my eyes. After more than half of the group had taken a stab at answering it (unsuccessfully), I finally wanted to get it over with. So I raised my hand and gave the right answer. I still remember the reaction of the conductor. He yelled.. YES, YES, YESSSSSS, YESSSSSS , then he said quitely, but loud enough for everyone to hear... of all people..

How sad, fairchild, that your diligence was not properly acknowledged. Some (many?) JWs do not pre-study and rely on previous information gained over the years half-asleep during the meetings or someone's personal opinion. Many people are enthuiastic about bible study when they first start attending and/or are baptized. As time goes by, they get lazy; partly due to the volume and blah aspects of the material. It is not surprising that many oldtimers miss the changes in doctrine.

My goodness, I have been away for so long I forgot about the second school upstairs. Funny thing too because I had my first part in the TMS up here. I think I liked the upstairs because it was in the library....
Oh yeah, those meetings were so unbearably boring. Oh course their eyes are glazed over.... mine sure were.

I'm not sure what you mean, one.
I do know that in 1977 the WT study was changed. Rather than reading the paragraphs after the comments as a summary, they were read before the questions were asked. I remember older JWs saying that was because too many people didn't read their WTs before the meeting let alone pre-study their WTs and were reading the paragraph while the conductor was looking for comments.
w77 2/1 p. 96 New Method of Conducting "Watchtower" StudyElders who preside at the weekly Watchtower study, as well as those who conduct the congregation book studies, are anxious to teach in the most effective and helpful way. (Rom. 12:8; 2 Tim. 4:2) Moreover, all in the congregation desire to make the most of opportunities for taking in spiritual nourishment so that they may attain to "accurate knowledge and full discernment" of the truth.?Phil. 1:9.
With this in mind, we recommend to all congregations the following order of study: (1) Read the paragraph in The Watchtower (or other publication); (2) Read the question thereon; (3) Call on those raising their hands for answers, discussing fully the paragraph and supporting scriptures.
There should be a number of advantages in reading the paragraphs before they are discussed. This will quickly refresh the minds of all who have studied over the lesson in advance, and in the event some have not been able to do this previous to the meeting, the reading will at least familiarize them with the material before it is discussed. Everyone will be encouraged to concentrate on the reading, rather than look ahead for the answer in the next paragraph. Those who are shy, or who are slow in organizing their thoughts, will be able to prepare better to put their words together and so gain confidence to raise their hands. There should be freer participation and fuller discussion of the finer details of the study, with emphasis on the application of key scriptures before passing on to the reading of the next paragraph.
This new arrangement should be a blessing to all of God?s people, as they seek to "be filled with the accurate knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual comprehension, in order to walk worthily of Jehovah."?Col. 1:9, 10.

I remember my first time in the school, I didnt realize it was a play sorry talk between two sisters. One was saying how she was having a lot of trouble with her teenage son and the other one was showing her all these scriptures. I thought it was real
Then years later I was someones householder, saying how terrible my husband treated me etc etc
After the meeting, a study came up to me giving me condolences on my bad marrage. I had to tell her it was all make believe, she was not impressed LOL
