It's been a heck of a while, since I've heard of any kingdom hall construction. I remember back in the late 80's, almost every month, there was a new kingdom hall being built.

Generally, building new KHs in Western Countries makes little sense with 0% increase. Building new ones in poor countries never pays off monewise. But here in Poland they've recently built a few assembly halls.

In this area there are about 5 to 7 projects each year, 3/4 of them remodels.

    blondie,

And what's the congregation/hall ration in your area?

Same here, 5-7 during the RBC season with maybe 1/3 or 1/2 as remodels. Its a very large geographic RBC tho.

Still halls being built but you are correct -at a vastly slower rate than in the 1980s

Well, Pole, I don't live in a large, urban area, but neither is it rural. Most halls are shared by 2 congregations in the more populated areas, in the countryside, only one. I have heard that in the larger cities, 1 million or more that halls can be shared by as many as 5 congregations (some of the double buildings).

The older KHs look very empty with the decrease in meeting attendance. I have noticed that they tend to remodel with a view of concealing that space.

Ok, so it does make sense to build more halls. I thought the ratio was much closer to 1:1 in the US.

Actually, you'd think that each congregation would prefer their own building but with the cost of land and construction, it makes more sense for 2 or more to share if they don't have to drive long distances to do it. Certain congregations around here make noises about building their own hall, usually after the 2 BOEs have a disagreement. But when they price land and see what they get in contributions every month...they decide to share again.

I don't live the most populated area though. Out East it is very congested and land is at a premium. A house in this area would cost 3 to 4 times the money in that area. In small rural areas, things are cheaper but then individual income is less too.
