Well Bug, I spent 10 years trying to recover from being raised in the cult known as Jehovahs Witnesses. They will seem friendly and nice and offer you answers to all sorts of questions, but make sure you spend some time of your own INVESTIGATING the whole religion for yourself.

hi bug WELCOME TO THIS BOARD

i hope you stick around and take a look at what everyone has to say. It has certainly enlightened me. before you do anything you need to look at things from ALL perspectives. I believe that only when youve done that are you able to make a sound choice for yourself.

    wishing you well

Don?t take things at face value. If it seems to good to be true then it probably is.

And please, please, please if you have kids look very closely into what is said here and elsewhere.

    Hi Fiona,

Can't really add much to what has been already said! Run as fast as you can FAR FAR AWAY from these people. You will never regret it.

I live local to you in Glasgow so if you want someone local to talk to feel free to contact me.

    Hi Fiona

Like Craig I am nearby also - I had no idea meetings were being held in the Kelvin Hall..that's interesting.

The advice you have been given from the other posters is very wise. Do all the research you can before committing yourself too deeply. This forum will provide you with a well rounded view of the JWs, from personal experiences to doctrinal discussions.

Drop me a PM if you want to and I hope to see you posting again.

Bug - They will tell you at the hall and in your study to avoid talking to ANYONE even now this early in your association with them, online or elsewhere who ever was a Jehovahs Witness and they will tell you that Satan has gotten that person and that everything they tell you will therefore be a lie. The JWs are a huge recruiting network. Their primary purpose is not to disseminate the "good news" as they call their message, but it is to recruit new members. The Watchtower is a huge publishing company with enormous financial holdings around the world and you as a member are expendable if you dare dare DARE to question anything they say to you or write in their literature. Your job is to shut up and PUT up and do their recruiting for them.

Do you want all your choices removed from you? Do you want to have only JWs as associates and friends? Do you want to give up ALL of your holidays and your family gatherings for a "religion"? THat is what will be expected of you, as well as giving up 5 hours a week for their meetings, more hours STUDYING for those meetings, as well as additional hours of going door to door on weekends preaching which will preclude you from doing anything then as well. You will be expected to raise your children as JWs. You will be expected to keep track of how many hours you spend going door to door and will have to REPORT that on paper to them every month. If you dont report or dont report sufficient hours to them, you will be considered of low spiritual quality and they will shun you...and then desert you altogether. Like Amway you are only as acceptable to them as your hours show. They will keep track of your meeting attendance and they will call you to find out why you WERENT THERE. Your life will not be your own any more.

Read read read on this site and others the experiences of the MILLIONS of people who have been there and gone through this. If you want to go and learn ...fine. Just DO NOT GET BAPTIZED. Then...its over...they own you.

married to a JW, been a JW....raising my children as FAR AWAY from the JWS as possible.

it could be the beginning of a huge change in my life

    That is an understatement.

Welcome to the forum. If you are planning on having a Bible Study with one of JW's, please remember to keep an open mind and research, research, research ALL of their teachings. Do not use ONLY their publications. Use whatever resourses you have available. You obviously already have internet access. That is one powerful tool. Be careful of what THEY tell you that you can and cannot use for your research.

Hi Fiona, one I noticed when I was in Glasgow was that there was a lot of what one might tem "spiritual" meetings or gatherings advertised for young people. Like at the Nelson Madela Center downtown near the Symphony Hall. I'm betting you could find something more suitable, realistic and not so controlling. Whatever you do, pay close attention to how they speak of others. What you will find is a total lack of respect for others and their beliefs. As well, do you really think a loving god wiould kill a large majority of the earth's population? Babies, children, the sick, ill, innocents, people who never heard of Jehovah's Witnesses? I urge you to think about those things very hard before handing over your life to the Witnesses, because that is exactly what happens. BTW, welcome tot he forum!

    Sincerely,

    Hello and welcome, Fiona!

My eyes really popped open when you wrote about how becoming a JW would be making huge changes in your life. It certainly made quite a few changes in mine.

I was a loyal and obedient JW for 30 years and as I began took the Watchtower blinders off my eyes and began to see the real truth about the teachings----it ended up in my entire family being ripped apart. I'm far from alone in this, as you will see if you read the comments on this board.

The fact that the JWs will TELL you that they believe that THEY are the ONLY religion that God approves of, should set the warning signals off in your head. They WTS has ALL kinds of claims like that, that they cannot support but teach anyway.

Just be very careful, Fiona. We'd hate to see another nice person be deceived by these false claims and twisted teachings.

    hugs,

    Annie

    bug. Welcome.

You most likely used a "search engine" such as Google to arrive here.

Ask yourself, Why this site comes up in the first page. It is because JWD is one of the most visited sites.

Yes there are some "active" JWs here but most of them are in the process of disenfranchising themselves from the religion business.

    This was posted above:

Good Advice. Especially with regards to children or the prospect of them. If you want to ruin your life, that is your business, but keep the "innocents" out of it.

The following quote is from the second "leader" of the JWs and ironically it is what "they" have become.

"Religion is the worship and service of the Devil and his associate demons .... Religion is the chief means that puts fear into the minds of the people and leads them into the Devil's snare .... Truly then, as stated, 'religion is a snare and a racket,' employed to collect money from them under false representations." Joseph Rutherford Watchtower, Jan. 15 1940, Page 29
