I wonder if one of the reasons for this change is because they no longer have access to the UN library? They probobly pulled a lot of the mags content from there.

Maybe other sources of published science have limited their access to reproduction and circulation.

The dubs think the fds is the source for all the meaty info in the awake, but they are not. They are as bad as the chinese when it comes to copying things.

Ha, thats the whole point of the un thingy. It wasnt just to get a lib card. Anyone can have access to UN stuff. Even if you dont have a lib card their are still repositorys all over the place and near Brookly'n. They do have access, always have. But yes they are copycats

    You're right, IP_Sec.

    ko38,

I wonder if one of the reasons for this change is because they no longer have access to the UN library?

Not really. They have subscriptions of a lot of magazines. They have access to limitless information.

Maybe other sources of published science have limited their access to reproduction and circulation.

I don't think so, there's no reason for them doing that.

The principal reason is financial. Check the discussion in: WTS Official Spin on monthly Awake: 'More emphasis on the Bible!'

A brother, "I wonder what they will do with all the new presses. You know the last time they improved the presses, the Berlin Wall came down, maybe this will be the same thing."

    HUH?

"Isn't it amazing the Slave always knows what we need?"

...implying that they know magically.....yeah...as if no one TOLD the "slave", they just read the dubs' minds.

Neo, I didnt know they already had access to the un.If the km says its to focus more on the bible, then there has to be a different reason. What do you think is the REAL reason?

My best guess as to the 'real' reason for going to monthly Awake?

    FINANCIAL!

In recent years they have made 2 significant changes in the magazine distribution process.

    1- The end of mailed-subscriptions

    2- Reducing Awake to monthly

In addition, recent years have seen a notable decline in the number of heavy books released. More brochures, ect. But less of the bound books. And the books have moved to perfect-bound style instead of the case-bound variety of previous years. All cost reducing efforts.

The change of subscriptions took the cost out of the hands of Brooklyn and into the hands of the individual to get these magazines distributed. The elimination of one issue of Awake per month represents a virtual 25% reduction in the cost of publishing magazines. Probably even more than that, since with this change will come the inevitable reduction of staff at the printing facilities. Even though this is 'volunteer' labor, there is still cost involved in housing, medical, ect to keep these boys at Bethel.

I think we see the financial wheels starting to squeek a little bit here.

    Just my opinion

Agreed. You should see the 2005 Examining the Scriptures Daily. Remember that little daily missive, with a basic staple bound soft cover?

Not anymore. It is glue bound and printed on newspaper grade. When you open it, it cracks. There is no way this thing would last a year's use. (That's why I refrain from reading the day's text.)

With a captive market who needs quality?

Oh Goodie, I never liked it anyway!

It seems only "Non Spritual People" like us will miss the travel and natural history stuff

Yeah, perhaps their also running out of material and they can't just make stuff up anymore to fill in the voids like in the good ol' Golden Age days.
