Take a good look at the Feb. 22 '05 Awake magazine. It's entitled "The Role of Mothers

as Educators". Who does it persistently choose to cite as an authority?

"Statistics gathered by the United Nations......."

"The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs.......

"according to UNESCO......."

The article then drifts off into a discussion about Female Genital Mutilation as " publicized

by Waris Dirie, a well known fashion model and special ambassador for the United Nations

Population Fund."

And now the icing on the cake:

page 5 shows a lengthy quote in bold letters on a grey background - made by

"UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, March 8, 2003 - together with his photograph

next to the quote.

Now, do I have to spell it out for you? Can you "connect the dots", here?

Here's what's happening: The Watchtower Society used to have a written agreement

with the UN as a means of gathering their favor. This agreement specifically said that

they must promote the interests of the UN - so, the Watchtower responded by printing

an Awake that nearly gushed over How Nice The UN Is. I KNOW THIS because I had

a Bible Study ask me about this some years back! ( "I thought the UN was from Satan??!!")

Anyway, some nasty, mean old 'apostates' exposed their flirtation with the UN

and the Society was forced into a humiliating withdrawal of their official "NGO" status.

But they need the UN.......

Millions of dollars are at stake as they confront European nations that doubt that

Jehovah's Witnesses deserve tax exemptions - based on their rejection of public charity

and deliberate efforts to break up families, when it suits them. They also are facing

bans in former Soviet states that take note of what Europe has observed about their organization.

I say they are STILL trying to curry favor with the UN by printing a single Awake

that they can hold up as evidence that their old cozy relationship still holds - even though

they can't 'sign off' on it. One Awake( who reads them anyway!) will easily pass thru

the hands of eagerly deceived Witnesses - who wouldn't dream that "apostate" accusations

about their dalliance with the UN could be true.

Let me make clear that I applaud the UN in seeking peace and fighting injustice.

What I object to here is the Watchtower's sly efforts to hypocritically seek favor from

agencies it has condemned as counterfeits of the Devil - all the while maintaining a pretense

of being 'no part of the world'.

The article begins with a quote from President Theodore Roosevelt. However, allow me

to conclude with a quote from a different President Roosevelt ( FDR)

"In politics, nothing happens by accident"

Now that most have heard the apostate lies (insert eye rolling guy) about their affiliation and there hasn't been much uprising - (those that left would've eventually) and are a drop in the bucket compared to the body count in developing countries.

After they are re-instated no one will believe it cause they've already double thunked that right out of importance with the library card excuse.

If a person is inclined to read business non-fiction, (I know, I'm weird) super-investor Jim Rogers wrote a great book entitled "Adventure Capitalist". In this book, I was amazed at how Rogers hated the shell games that alot of NGOs perpetrate for money. He described how they line up for library and feasibility studies monies while doing nothing to alleviate suffering of the poor. When I read this I was reminded of a page on Kent Steinhaug's site of the WT in France asking for books to be donated for a library in Africa.

I began to correspond with Jim through email and he strongly suggested that I locate the financials of the NGO. He also added that these might not be transparent.

I dont have the time I used to have to devote to anti-WT causes, but this could be a potential wellspring of information. Obviously, they wont be structured the same as they were from 1992-2001.

But it is apparent that they are riding that old scarlet colored wild beast again under somebody's umbrella! Especially after this recent Awake!

I whole heartedly agree and no one has fully explained why a 2003 report names the Indian branch of WTBS as one of the largest recipients and one of the largest donors (page 6 i believe).

They kept the card specially after the internet made available more info that could be used to write Awake. BTW imo awake is being reduced to a monthly publication becasue the internet makes available a ton of info, awake pales in comparison.

Back to the association WT knew it was a public record so to speak, and for 10 years they exposed themselves, taking the risk to be found riding the beast just like the whore they graphically showed so many time in bed with the UN... it was more than stupidity but a calculated risk, which they though could hardly be invetisgated and exposed as it has been done (by 1992 the internet did not exist as known today) At least the WT in the past had always discarded hi negative publicity against them

One more question, what is the WT "attendance record" to UN "mettings" ?

Waht has been the WTT participations in one way or another since they became associated . ?

How many WT "researches" actually visited the UN library? Were just a few secretive "researchers"? Did they (wt reasearchers) actually write anything as a result?

Does the UN keep record of the cards? (i mean when and how they were utilized.)

I will give the WT the benefit of a doubt (not for the use of the card), (curiosity kills the cat?) if they became interested in knowing what was going on inside the UN by networking as NGO somehow. As a "secret" plan to destroy religion was not going to be discussed in a "public" metting in front of NGO.

Take the above for the sake of discussion if you will, remember the WT took very seriously the UN in "god's plan"... a prominent key element, how could they IGNORE it?.

Since 1975 did not do any good, so if you can't win join them...

Thank you for being alert enough to notice this and posting it for our benefit. I haven't read an "Awake!" in several years.

At the very least the WTBS is not the least bit concerned about the "appearance of evil." You would think that with all the brouhaha and their quiet resignation as an NGO, the WT would be very careful with their quotes and references.

What this seems to indicate is that the UN "scandal" had little, if any, effect on hierachal credibility among Jehovah's Witnesses generally. Using a basketball analogy, what appeared to be a slam dunk, was actually just a tipped ball.
