Poztate, I just wanted to mention to you that in the 1960s there was no elder arrangement it didn't come into effect until 1971/72

Not picking on you just thought you'd like to know.

OOPS....Slip of the brain cells. That is what happens when you get old and senile...

They wouldn't let me edit it out...Now my mistake will live forever

One of the elders in my old hall was constantly saying "Niger-Rigging" on quick builds ie; "this a/c is completly niger rigged" His language was TERRIBLE and I just think he didn't give a damn he was old and this IS Jacksonville he said LOTS of racial slurs! This was one of his better ones!

    I remembered...

    One entry found for mick.
    Main Entry: mick
    Pronunciation: 'mik
    Function: noun
    Usage: often capitalized
Etymology: Mick, nickname for Michael, common Irish given name
    often offensive : IRISHMAN

Even at the time it seemed a little out of place and was commented on.The context was a term of affection on the stage between the two but it showed no sensitivity for the situation. How badly is this regarded in the old country ?? Is it on par with other racial slurs ??

"jewing me down" Usually means trying to take financial advantage by pestering or badgering to get the price down ie; if someone says I will tile this floor for 500 and you say can you do it for 350 you are trying to "jew them down" it's based on the notion that jews are cheap and like to "haggle" for more examples of "haggleing" watch Monty Pythons "Life of Brian" specificly the beard part!

It is generally believed that the curse which Noah pronounced upon Canaan was the origin of the Black race...They have been and are a race of servants...There is no servant in the world as good as a good Colored servant

I would REALLY love a copy of The Golden Age.........maybe this is one of the reasons why the Anointed are mainly Caucasian (!!) - I'd just LOVE to know what % in relation to the World's population!!

I have never heard the expression ''Jewing'' - although older Brits do often use ''mean as a Jew'' as a simile (even JW use this one).

''Mick'' is commonly used to refer to the Irish, as is ''Paddy''.

IIRC, Michael Jackson used the term "Jew me" in his song "They don't care about us". He deleted the expression in later versions of the song.

I understand the common part but Websters dictionary defines it as often offensive.

How offensive would this have been considered back in the early 1970's

Try on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the worst.

    I don't know about the early 70s Poztate - but on a scale of 1-10, I would guess 3 - 4. It isn't a term I use, but it is quite common.

Paddy (for Irish) and Taffy (for Welsh) are not offensive and are often used by natives.
