It goes back to flintlock rifles. Once loaded with powder and ball, you filled a small "pan" with fine black powder. When the rifle was fired, the flint would scrape a steel causing sparks to ignite the pan. If the pan ignited but the spark failed to travel the tiny hole to the load, you had a "flash in the pan".... an old term for missfire.

It really is so odd, though. The bible says, I believe, that humans could not handle all the "Light" at once. So the light gets brighter and brighter. Or, "New Light" is delivered.
The thing is, when "New Light" makes the old light false, it makes no sense. It would have to mean the last, "New Light" was a false light.
For God to say to the 12 in New York, 'The end will be here in 1914', then he says to them again later, 'Wait... let's make it 1915', then again, 'No... actually the end will be about 80 years after 1914. That last date was all wrong'.
This is not giving a little light at a time so we can handle it. This is changing dates because the last one didn't work.
If the message was that the end would come in the next 100 years, then 30 years later the word is the end is coming in the next 3 decades, then again we have new light that says in the next 15 years Armageddon will be here... That is "New Light". That I could understand.
It is just so blatently obvious that they are just changing beliefs and covering for the bad Old Light, which never came true, ie. False Prophesy!

well I guess the Society is now going to try and justify their affilation as NGO of the UN.
Yes they get caught by apostates and the next thing the Society will say that the FDS enemies are trying to cause the Organization to look like it was doing something wrong well brothers lets explain it to the congregations before we're blasphemed anymore by those lovey apostates.

I don't really see the problem with the U.N. thing. Does anyone actually know WHY the WTBTS did affiliate with the UN and in what way exactly, is there an article about it somewhere?
To me this sounds like something that I've heard earlier. When a JW I know came at the door of a family that lived next door to a JW single mom, the man of the house had the following argument against the JW. "Isn't one of your principals that you do not christmas, well, I have seen the neighbour who is a JW pick up a present for her kids from the school after the christmas party, so she does celebrate christmas."
This JW ofcourse went next door to see what it's all about. When the mother opened the door and the JW asked her about it she replied "Well, I was called by the head of the school, asking me why my son couldnt take his christmas present. Then I explained it to him. Then the head replied that I payed the school not only for the lessons, but also for all trips out of school, all lunch in school, and also the christmas present, so this was something that was included with the money we payed. That's why I picked it up."
The point behind this story is that sometimes people, and especially people who are a priori negative about JW's, when they here things like these immediatly use it to bash the JW's, when sometimes theres a reasonable explanations to it all. I am not saying this is what is happening with the UN and the WTS, but I do wonder if there has been any word from the WTS about this. If not then all you guys are doing is purely speculating, just like the man of the house i mentioned above.
Delta, as part of their agreement to become an NGO they had to agree with the UN charter which is fundamentally a lack of neutrality as defined by the FDS. Also during these years the Awake magazine stopped refering to the UN as the Scarlet Colored Wild beast and began gushing with love for it.
Under their own law the person(s) responsible for this should meet a JC and be disfellowshipped. They knew it was wrong because they asked to be disassociated as an NGO as soon as the bad ol' 'postates exposed them.
It is an example of duplicity on the part of the Society.

The WTS kept completely silent about it for a decade.
It wasn't until it was brought to light by outsiders that they scrabbled around to make good.
Simultaneous to presenting positive articles in the "Awake!" about the UN they were printing derogatory ones in"The Watchtower".
The main reason appear to be so they could get their "work" officially permitted in certain lands, for tax breaks, and allegedly for the use of the UN library. The only one they admit is the latter, which could just as easily have been attained with a simple library card, but instead they went the whole hog and applied for full membership as an NGO. This required them to print positive stuff in their joiurnals, whch they did, as I commented on above.

Well, I'll have to read those articles, havent read any Awake or Watchtowers in years (I have a CD with all of the lecture from 1970's to 1999). Then me, being me, wonders why they did that if they really wanted to be an NGO. Is it really because of the bad publicity? Wouldnt that be easy to control with their l33t brainwashing tactics? Or is it maybe something else, maybe something positive that no one here has tried to see yet... ;)
