Things that make you feel like a Daddy...

Last night my daughter (8 years old) came down to the bed with a belly ache. She has a couple of legit issues which cause belly aches beyond the regular kid stuff. Her poor little face grimaces in pain.

So I had her get into bed, got out my iRiver MP3 player, put one of my ear-buds in her ear and one in mine and we listened to music and I rubbed her belly and tapped out the songs we were listening to. In a half hour she was asleep.

She said this morning to her mom that she didn't even think about her belly as she listened to the music and how much she loved her daddy.

What makes you really feel like a daddy or a mommy?

Staying awake all night with a sick child and not minding because they need you and you know it's the most important thing in the world.

Cleaning them (and you) up after the tummy-ache turns to barf (you were soooooo lucky, confusedjw!!!).

Little fat arms wrapped around your neck and a soft whisper, "I love you, Mommy."

Going to Open House and having them proudly show you what they've done! (last night)

Snuggling at 3:00 a.m. after they've had a bad nightmare.

I relate to the above posts; kids are just wonderful----until they reach the adolescent years.

My little Caroline ( age 5) still thinks I am great and runs to me with open arms every nite when I walk in the door to say she loves me.

My older ones ( teenager and preadolescent ) tell me they hate me when they cannot have their way.....an unfortunate phase which I am waiting patiently for them to outgrow.

Yes, they are great, and I consider them all a gift.

Awww confused that is so sweet it hearkens me back to the days...........sigh, they grow up so fast cherish every moment! Best thing is when it's all done and they are up and out we rarely remember the bad stuff selective memory sets in big time! Another best thing is they do remember the bad things and how their parents helped them through tough times trains them for parenthood. It's all good!

Nina you are the bestest Mom!

Side note: My daughter and two grandkids called me last night and sang "Happy Birthday" on the phone to me! How sweet is that?!!! It was so precious, music to my ears! Best B-day prezzie ever!

So they made me feel like a Grandma, just wait confused being a grandparent is very special too!

Frank - that is tough. I will bet that they will grow out of it, but we have a rule in our house. No one is ever allowed to say "I hate you" and I hope that it holds through the next few years (son 15 - daughter 8) crossing fingers.

    Thanks BikerChick!

That's just teenage thinking, it's such a confusing time for both parents and teens. On one hand you are training them to be more responsible and such and they like the Independence, but on the other hand they thrive on you keeping them in check and show a bit of rebellious attitude. The best way I found with my teens to counter act this "I hate you" attitude is to tell them; "I know you don't hate me, but you dislike doing what I say, when you are of age and on your own you can do what you want but while you are living here I'm the final say". That clarifies the situation and gives them hope of being independent someday..........hey it gives us hope too! LOL

    THanks BikerChick!

I need to get a life! LOL

When I get home my 16 month old always runs to me and jumps into my arms. I LOVE it!

When I buy her a new wardrobe and I'm wearing clothes that I had before she was even conceived.

When we take a bath together...she plays with her toys and I read my book...

After I talk to my JW mother and look at my daughter and know I will NEVER let some religion get between us....Even if she decides to worshipp Satan, she'll still be my baby. "You can't do that isht in my house, but you are always welcomed here."

When I pass up doing a new drug cus I'm still breastfeeding....
