This place has helped me to "face" my parents. Actually, get off of the "oh they hurt me sooo much" and go see them, again.

They are 87. My dad has been diabetic for 40 years and has lost the lower portion of both legs. He has artificial legs, but he doesn't do well with them anymore. My mom is his sole caregiver. He also has alzheimers, but usually remembers me. He isn't the same person he was. He's become sweet and child-like silly. When he was himself he could be a real butthead at times. And was really sharp. I learned a lot from him growing up.
I'm glad I'm able to be there now. I was over yesterday and found out from my mom that his kidneys are going rapidly. He has to start dialysis right away. Three days a week. And for her to get him out of the house is at the least difficult. She's really really worried, about getting him to the clinic, about loosing him!
I've decided to go over at least weekly and visit and help out where I can.
This is tough, even though I've expected it for years.
