  Direct examination of Clayton J. Woodworth, editor of the Consolation magazine (which used to be the Golden Age, and later became the Awake!)

  Q. How old are you Mr. Woodworth? A. 73

  .....

  Q Then you do admit, do you not, that Mr. Rutherford did administer rebukes? A. Yes, sir.

  Q. And you know, Mr Woodworth, that he did administer rebukes to you, don't you?

  A. "What son is he whom the father chasteneth not?"

  The Court: He didn't ask you that. Answer the Question.

  The Witness: Occasionally.

  Note: Clayton J. Woodworth was only ONE YEAR younger than "Judge" Rutherford!

  "Son" in the sense of the inappropriate response Mr Woodworth gave to a direct question.

  I do not see why that quote came to Woodworth's mind while on the stand, he was 73! and Rutherford was only one year older than him!

  Did Woodworth have any self-esteem at all?

  lol - I was just doing a google search on the Olin Moyle trial (as I'm not familiar with it) but I HAVE just read that :-

  During the Scottish trial the directors of the Watchtower Society admitted....

  1. They taught ERROR
  2. They have promulgated (published) FALSE PROPHECY
  3. Any Jehovah's Witness who DISAGREED with the organisation, and said so, would be DISFELLOWSHIPPED.

  'AND JEHOVAH GOD HIMSELF IS BEHIND IT ALL'

  Fascinating quote. It seems Woodworth was applying (misapplying) a New Testament scripture that speaks of how God disciplines his children. Either Woodworth was trying to imply that JF Rutherford functioned like God at Bethel, or he thought of such discipline as coming from God, through Rutherford. Either way, such thinking is sick.   To see for myself what Olin Moyle sued over - like I said, I wasn't aware of this, and if the Governing Body used the WT to libel an individual, then I personally believe that to be well out of order especially after what I have just read in the ''Scottish Case'' transcripts.

  Strange, isn't it, that Rutherford was correct in his own way?

  He condemned the brothers for being wimps in regard to the Madison Square Garden incident ( they were supposed to defend

  the arena against Catholic Action types. A few Irish Catholics may have gotten their heads busted with canes the attendants

  carried).

  Well, they were wimps! These men cowered in Rutherford's presence - and lacked even minimal self esteem when confronted

  with his tirades - and this , in turn, fed Rutherford's ego to CONTINUE to abuse the weak men around him.

  I don't think pointing out the hypocracy, or the imperfections, of Russell and Rutherford etc washes with modern JW - they have a very ''coloured'' view of these ''Pioneers''. Now I keep hearing how Jehovah will ''out'' the wrongdoing in His Organisation (Unless, of course, the Newspapers beat him to it).
