Now there's an idea, go to meetings in an unknown language.

When I left Spain in '94, I knew of English congregations or groups in Rota (province of Cadiz), Torremolinos, Malaga, Madrid, and elsewhere. They tended to concentrate in areas with either British retirees or American military bases. I'm sure the Madrid branch would be happy to provide you with phone numbers.

Rob, if you're actually looking to associate with Witnesses, I would urge extreme caution. They're a high-control religion that teaches a lot of emotionally harmful and just plain bizarre stuff. Look in the Best Of forum and you'll find some of the experiences of members of this forum.

I don't have the phone number for Madrid Bethel; that's the Spanish headquarters of the JWs. However, if you call American headquarters at 718-625-3600 they can probably give you the number. As long as you speak a little basic Spanish, the Madrid Bethel will be happy to give you the phone numbers of English congregations; or if you speak no Spanish at all, they have a lot of people at the office who speak English.

Best of luck to you, and again, please be careful.

    Rob,

Spain is crawling with British expats, so I recommend contacting an expat organisation such as this one. http://www.spainexpat.com/links/expat-links.php

Whilst I'm aware that Americans don't actually speak English, with a bit of luck you might be able to pick out the odd word or 2.

    Englishman.
