Jehovah or Yahweh?
Neither, but, whatever
It's good that jws set themselves apart - as information increases, so will the knowledge about 'jehovah' - nothing that more 'new drivel light' won't explain away though.

I may be way off the wall here - But in past couple weeks I have been researching religions that use the Yahweh version of the name. There seems to be dozens if not hundreds of sects doing so. But very few using Jehovah.
I attribute this to two possibilities here;
1 - Jehovah's witnesses want to stand out as special, unique, and different. This makes them appear above the rest in understanding.
2- These other groups are actually far more scholarly that witnesses.
I actually think both might be part of the answer
Just my opinion

For the Hebrews, names referred to some characteristic or significant event associated with that person.
Although God has a lot of different names in the OT, when Moses wanted a particular name, my feeling is that God wanted to give him something that communicated his most important and distinctive characteristic?his eternal nature. By saying "I AM," I think He was saying that he has always been, is, and always will be (from our linear perspective)?beyond time and space, for Whom all time is in His present.
However the Name was actually pronounced, I don't think it was meant to be hidden, but I guess some were afraid of misusing it.
The old and new testament are full of references to the "Glory of God" in many cases refering to a person. Who then is this? He is equated to one who returns in the station of the "Father" and one who will "lead us to all truth", the Paraclete, the "Spirit of Truth".

"potato or potayto" - LOL, thanks for the laugh! ;-D
Tons of great info here!
I appreciate hearing from our Hebrew expert, Z, though it feels funny to pronounce the name, yod hay vav hay. I guess it would take some getting used to.
I kinda like the Jahveh idea.
Re: WT leading us to believe ONLY JWs use the name Jehovah, what a surprise when I began watching the local faith channel a few years ago. I hate to tell the WT but all those people on the Christian networks -- whatever "religions" they are -- well they all say Jehovah as well, not as OFTEN as JWs do, but they surely do use it often enough. And they sing many a song with Jehovah in it, too, from old time hymns to gospel quartets to huge church choirs to more modern "christian rock", etc. The emphasis, however, is always on Jesus.
As for praying to... hmm... God, Jehovah, Yahweh, etc. I asked God one day, "Since I always go by my initials, and since we don't know how to correctly pronounce YOUR name, how's about I just call you by your initials and you can call me by mine? To YHWH from /ag, Amen." ;-)
I'm still waiting for an OK on that, lol.

I heard Robert Duvall calling out to Jehovah the other night in "The Apostle."
