Back in 75, like most JW's we looked with eagerness as to the upcoming world calamity. Great tribulation and the beginning of the 1000 year reign of JC to end the 7th day of God's Rest. When in the fall of that year nothing seemed to happen.
The organization always said in the "fall" is generally when God does his works on behalf of His people.
I was serving in Montreal at the time and had spent several years in the pioneer service. Eagerly awaiting the greatest event in all human history. What a let down for sure. Their Prophecy proved to be untrue. Like most of the things the Organization predicted.
But many a witness including my parents would say we are not serving God until a date. We serve him not worring about the events to come upon the world of mankind
It was just keep our lives simple, giveup all oppourtunities to educate and earn a living. I mean I know of Brothers and sisters who sold everything and went to serve where the need was greater. They sold their homes and used their lives savings realizing that 1975 was so close. Others bought homes and bought luxuries that normally they won't have , because they believed that they would'nt have to pay back any money back knowing 1975 was the end. It was a really bad time for many witnesses. I think a huge silence fell upon congregations. You could read the eyes of witnesses and see how disappointed they were. The WTS had the nerve to tell us that it was a mistake. Bull shit. They did everything they could to gloss over their lies. It was sickening to say the least.
As I said I was lucky I just lived and preached and teached as I always had, even though I felt cheated and lied to. I felt that the Society didn't know anything at all and just made up dates to keep JWS in line. They had their agenda's. And it worked. For all those who left the organizations thousands and thousands flocked to the WTS. Try and figure that one out..
I think deep down I didn't believe it was going to happen in 1975, And for sure I know now its not coming. Its all a rouse. Its scandalous. It's lies upon lies that the organization perpetuates to keep peoples lives miserable.
It's now 30 years since that date. and it was in 1967 the year of my baptizm that the Society had a talk at the convention, about "Where will you Be in 1975?
I believed with my heart mind and soul the teachings set out by the Society as I thought they were truly God's instrument on earth. Well now I know it isn't.
And even if Armeggadon happens so what, I will have lived my live the way I wanted to in peace and quietness from the absurd rules and regulations the society had heaped upon us. I have an inner peace and tranquility that is so soothing to me. I have no fear of the teachings of the Society.
They have so much to answer for. I hope I live to see the day the Society is forced to recognize their own mistakes and hundreds of thousands leave them high and dry.
