It seems to be a running gag that Americans think Brits are gay.

"Not that there's anything wrong with that" is a line from the American TV show, Seinfeld. In one episode every time he would mention homosexuality he would quickly add that phrase to prove he was politically correct.

I am glad you got the joke.

The religion was started it Pittsburgh. I grew up in Akron, Ohio, about a two hour drive from the religion's origin. I think that the religion was strict in this geopgraphical location.

My impression has always been that the US JWs take the whole thing more seriously.

I've been at assemblies where most of the audience were looking around smirking and rolling their eyes at some 'earnest' bod from Brooklyn (or the ever so corny Drama dialog)

Simon - I didn't realise smirking and rolling of eyes was allowed at assemblies!!!!

Those evil smirkers and eye rollers must all be on this board by now!

I don't know about the difference in being "faithful" between UK JW's and US JW's.

What I have learnt is that congregation to congregation can vary. Some follow WT directives to the letter, others more lax.

But I think it all comes down to how the Elders run the congregation. Their own personal attitudes can play a part.

What I have noticed about the USA JW's is that they seem to have developed some strange petty rules amongst themselves. I could never understand the thing about owning a two-door car.

The differences are less about faithfulness and more about style. When the plebs step out of line in In The UK, the elders like to give them a 'darn good thrashing.' Whereas the US they like to 'kick ass.'

It's all a very nasty business and harder for the English JW brothers as, it is true they are all gay, it's just that a lot of haven't realized yet, as they are sexually repressed and into denial.

That was kind of my impression about European JWs as a whole. This was esp. true when it came to college and "R" rated movies. I remember a few years back some Irish JWs were visiting the hall and were talking about the movie Braveheart and how good it was. Some of the local JWs were telling them "don't you know that it's a R-rated movie?" The Irish kind of shrugged their shoulders and asked what's an R rated movie?". lol
