It seemed to me growing up that we were a very mixed Cong. and most got along well. The main prejudice I saw was to the poor, regardless of color.
Were You Affected By Racism In The Congregation???

The only times I've seen prejudice shown toward other Witnesses was when English speaking elders would deride the Spanish (Puerto Rican) congregation that shared the KH.

I grew up in mixed congregations. I never saw racism. Social class distinctions were evident though. SOme congs were biased toward the poor, with only pioneer janitors being considered exemplery. Other congs though definitely favored the wealthier members

The only times I've seen prejudice shown toward other Witnesses was when English speaking elders would deride the Spanish (Puerto Rican) congregation that shared the KH. I second this. Over heard the PO say, "They (with that tone...you know) weren't paying their half of the expenses." I was the literature servant and was told not to give them any english literature. I got what ever I asked for from them....they were glad to help. Also heard a couple of other comments by some about the spanish....nothing overt though. I did hear a visiting elder use the word colored people in his talk one Sunday. I think most people bring their "baggage" in with them. This hall was on a mostly white / spanish side of town.

Not in my congregation per se, but if I went to congregations and witnesses beyond the urban areas, you can bet there's racism.
I agree! I'm in a suburban area but I bet that if I went to congregations in urban areas I would be discriminated against by the black brothers (lol).

I was visiting my JW family last month. They live in a small Midwestern farm town. My mom asked my dad if the septic tank at the KH had been fixed.
He said, "Yes, we pumped it out and discovered that the Spanish congregation was flushing diapers and other unmentionables down the toilets."
Me: "How do you know it was the Spanish brothers? Maybe you should do DNA tests."
My brother: (loudly and indignantly) "CUZ THEY'RE FRESH OFF THE BOAT. THAT'S WHY!"
Well, what do you say to that? I just laughed . . . a lot.

I dont know if it was Racism per say but even though the English speaking bros were cordial they by no means talked with any of the Spanish Bros in the cong when both groups were in the hall. That would happen as one cong was leaving and the other arriving. Mostly the Elders did talk to each other but that was about it.

Not at all. I attended four KH in my 30 years of being a JW, one was in a predominantly black area and the others were mixed but mostly Caucasian. It was never a problem as far as I was concerned.

When I was a Witness in the latter 1950s and up to 1966 the blacks and whites had separate halls. Segregation was still being practiced. This was in Louisiana.
