A good JW elder follows the societys directions to a tee and is usually a butthole.....because he follows the societys directions to a tee.
A bad elder......but one WE would consider good....is one who uses sound logical reasoning and shows compassion for his fellowman. These latter ones are hard to find......unless they are hard when you find them......then they stick out like a sore thumb. ( I had to touch on Mini's dirty comment)

BroC, I love him but he is a real company man.
Exactly. So follow the letter of the law from the branch no matter what.
A discussion from the elder?s room after the meeting last Thursday.
BroA. Well Sister so & so wants to have this piece of classical music played at her wedding in the hall. What do you bros think?
BroB. Why would she want to do that? Is she trying to bring honor to herself on such a sacred occasion?
BroC. I think there is a letter on this somewhere. *starts digging in the file*
BroA Well I?m sure they just want to make their wedding special.
BroB. Yes I?ve seen some outlandish things happen at weddings in various halls. *goes on to describe some*
Me. Well what biblical principle could possibly be broken by having a non-kingdom melody-non-threatening song played at the wedding?
ABC. Mumbling ?well I don?t know? as if that?s not the issue. *BroC still looking through the BOE letters index*
BroB. Well we wouldn?t want to set a president for any non-Christian traditions in wedding.
BroA. I know, that?s why I?m asking what you brothers think, and I?ve read the letter. It says something to the effect that only kingdom melodies should be played.
Me. There are a lot of non-Christian traditions that are allowed at weddings. Rings, marching down the aisle and so forth, what would make this any different.
BroC. Well you also have to think about the composer of the music. What kind of person was he?
BroA. I don?t know, I?m sure it?s a beautiful piece, but that?s not the only consideration.
BroC. Well it?s clear that the ?slave? doesn?t want outside music played in the hall during weddings.
BroA. I know, I read them the letter a few months ago when this came up, but tonight they gave me the CD and I saw this title and just thought I?d ask what you think.
Me. I don?t have a problem with it.
BroC. The direction from the branch is clear.
BroA. Alright well then I?ll let them know this piece wont be appropriate.

... everyone's favorite and the rest of the elders are struggling with jealousy."
The question has never been if there are any good elders in the organization. The real question has been, "what good are they"?
They are not the ones who have any influence on the organization's application of what it means to be Christlike.
