JWs are vultures!

My wife's grandmother passed away recently. We were at her mother's place yesterday. Now, her mother takes care of her father and mother's financial situation. So anyway, she opened a piece of her father's mail while we were there, and enclosed was a letter and the tract "Hope for dead loved ones" or whatever it's called. This was interesting because I've never seen a JW letter before. Apparently, this JW got the information from the obituary. Too bad there was no return address on the envelope.

Do JWs make a practice of doing this with obituaries?

Yup..... at my old hall the older ladies who've given 60 / 70 yrs to the wtbs and who are now too infirm to go out do that so that they can turn in time and not be shunned as useless .

OMG, I forgot I used to do that myself until you just mentioned it. I regular pioneered a little over 12 years ago and to get enough "time" in at the end of the month we would write letters to the family of anyone listed in the obits.

I know it totally sounds crazy now, but I did it like a good little pioneer sister when I was a teenager.

Today that is just horrifying to think of.

Me thinks that is stooping a bit low.

JWs aren't unique in this tasteless and tactless practice. When my grandma passed away, and on the morning of the funeral, as we were all gathered at her house with other relatives, there was a knock on the door - it was a real estate agent who wanted to offer condolences and pass along his business card if his services were required in the near future. Oddly enough, it was a JW elder who gave him hell for behaving like a vulture and disturbing people when they were grieving.

I knew some JWs who felt it was the Perfect Opportunity to Give a Witness?. Fortunately, I was raised with more scruples than that.

    Love, Scully

Yup, I'm ashamed to say I was one of them.

    It's disgusting.

Also, as for vultures, having older people leave everything to the wts is sick. Let's just deny family of anything.

    I know "apostates" do!

About ten years ago my brother in law died suddenly. We received "apostate" material in the mail after his obit was published...Anyway, I don't think sending stuff anonymously is cool. What's the matter, afraid you might know who they are?

Ummm, whaaat? What in the world would the apostate hope to accomplish? Was your family dubs at the time? I don't get it. Details, please.

Have to totally agree with you on the sending stuff anonymously point. I totally hate that. It's so passive-agressive.

Sorry, Nos, I did that too. I was confined a lot of the time and I sent letters and tracts like that.

I put my phone number on them and only got one call-ever! It was a doozy! The lady was livid, but I calmed her down. I had to promise that I would never write to her again!

As with a lot of things, I "thought I was pleasing Jehovah", and there were many times that I would much rather have been doing something else.

    hugs,

    Annie
