Have You Seen My Mother
Bryan, there weren't any newspaper articles that I know of.
Anyone know if there was a follow up story in any of the local news? I'm nowhere near texas. I'm keeping my eye on the news via Google, but I still can't find anything.
Oh well.
This was the case that the wife of one of my co-workers sat as judge on. I did find out that the court ordered blood transfusion process was started BEFORE the time that the baby was going to need the blood, in order to have everything ready. In other words, the transfusion wasn't delayed by the Witnesses going to court to block the court order. I think the doctors have this down to a fine art when they see "Jehovah's Witness" on the hospital paperwork. (I know I would!)

So Nina are you saying that in this case the stance on blood didn't make a difference in the child's dying since it was pushed thru the courts? (I'm home on dial-up and couldn't get the link to work so I don't know what happened)
If that is the case I would feel a bit better.
Yes, in this case that's true. The doctors knew ahead of time that the babies would need blood, and they also had to wait a certain length of time -- I think a few days after birth -- before they could safely give the blood to the babies (don't ask me why -- it's a medical thang).

You know I find that conforting that the courts are now set up to deal with this issue efficiently and (at least in this case) without preventing the best care possible for the minor.
I do think that MANY JW's, behind closed doors or in their hearts hope the courts will take over that decision anyway. I knew shortly after my first child was born that if anything came up I would do that. And I also knew that was why I couldn't serve as an elder again because I lacked the proper faith.
It turns out I didn't have the faith of Abraham.
