After tons of research and finding a killer deal (the real reason), I decided I'm going to the Mayan Riviera and I'm staying at the Grand Palladium. It's rated 4 stars on Expedia and 5 golden apples by Apple Vacations. Looks really nice. Going for a week over the Memorial Day holiday (US).

Please feel free to join me on my hedonistic adventure!

Gonna imbibe, scuba, imbibe, fish, imbibe, imbibe, "get some", imbibe, lay by the pool, imbibe... well you get the picture.

Thank you all for your input.

p.s.- feel free to "rate" my decision or tell me if you've been there and any "tips".

    Mayan Riviera?

Where is that? Sounds like in or around Cancun...?

    You're right on!

Due South of Cancun... Cancun is Vegas on the beach... been to Vegas many times (let Vegas be Vegas)

I heard this place KICKS... much more subdued and "romantic" with cenotes, Mayan ruins and eco-parks nearby. But the tequila "drinks" the same there as anywhere.

I'll take some pics.... hopefully I can get them posted when I get back (damn I have 12 weeks to wait... I'm bummed)

TIP: Don't dress like a tourist. Wear old ratty clothes to blend in and not look like you have any money.

I was there a few years ago for my 'Happy-End-of-Chemo' celebration.

We had a great time (although I was still too tired to do much actual partying)

Xcaret was Fantastic. If you go, plan to stay for the evening. Xcaret at Night! is an entirely different place...

LaHabichuela is a nice romantic restaurant downtown. Little difficult to find but well worth the adventure. If you go, be sure to order the Mayan Coffee.

What ever you do, I know you will have a great time. Haven't heard anyone come home disappointed.

PS Save some money for Apostafest in Vegas in October... Right? :-)

    Good Choice.

We stayed in the Mayan Riviera area a couple of years ago, at the Adventura Palace. It was an adults only resort which was away from all the hub-bub of activity. A 20 minute ride from Playa del Carmen, depending on the cab driver.

UD, my only suggestion is that because you will be very close to the Tropic of Capricorn very close to the Summer Solstice (the sun is at it's farthest N during Summer Solstice, and the Tropic of Cap is it's Northern most point of travel) ... be sure to wear a good sunsreen and a hat. The sand can be very hot, so wear foot protection. Don't forget lots of water between lot's of tequilla. You can drink the hotel tap water. It will be filtered and treated. Most restaurants serve purified water, too.

So, to sum it all up:

Drink the water AND the tequilla

    Wear a hat
    Wear sandals for flipflops
    And wear sunscreen in between
(Oh, that makes for a good picture ;)

    AND ENJOY!

Do you have a digital camera? If so, you could (if you wanted to waste your time) post them while on vacation. Internet cafe's abound in mexico. Hotel internet is far more expensive than the mom&pop places across the street.
