Memorial Invitation

Just got a visit from 2 old friends. We talked about fun things we'd been doing lately and then they told me the reason they stopped by was to invite me to the memorial. I was completely silent and non-committal. But before they left I did ask them what their take was on what it said in 1 Cor. about the Lord's evening meal, in particular the part about doing this "until he arrives".

One said rather arrogantly that it said just keep doing this "in remembrance of me", but I said it also says "until he arrives". I said since you believe he has already arrived why do you keep up this celebration? They had no answer and were not sure it said that, but they said they would get back to me after some research. I don't really expect that to happen and don't really care, but does anyone know how the dubs answer this? If they do come back maybe I can be ready for them.

Excellent reply! Don't hold your breath on them returning with an answer. I've got to remember this one I'll probably be getting a phone call or two soon as well.

I think they consider the 1914 "arrival" to be the beginning of his "presence" and they interpret the "arrival" spoken of in Corinthians to be Armagedon.

I'm sure that's what they believe too but it has no real basis in their interpetation of the bible. If you look at the babylon the great book(1963?) and the revelation book of 1988 almost ALL of revelation has been fufilled. A lot of this happened in the 1920's when the other flake (rutherford) was in charge of the cult. If you tried to get a real explaination of why jesus was to come in two parts separated by almost 100 years they certainly would not be able to show you based on the bible.

This could be a great question to ask if anyone here gets a memorial invitation.

It's the Witness arrogance that bothers me most. It's one thing to believe in something strongly it's quite another thing to look down on everyone who doesn't agree with you.

If these 2 ever come back, I am sure they will put the spin on it mentioned. My response to them is going to be:

You two obviously had to research the WTS publications for an answer since you had none at first. If you had just read this scripture without someone interpreting it for you, how would you take it? The last statement made in that scripture is "until he returns". If you were told to do something "until he returns", would you expect to have to keep doing it after he returned?

Then again, I've been through this before. Why bother, let them have their little fantasy life.
