  Well Dan I see a lot of good everytime I go down to my campus. Thousands of young people trying hard to educate themselves, even the ones who have their britches hanging down to their knees. Personally I don't care what music young people listen to or what people they find "cool", as long as at the end of the day they have actively participated in learning. Several summers ago I worked with the Mobil Green Team project...It was for minority students who weren't so good students and were considered "at risk" with a full unplanned summer ahead. Well part of their time was spent in class romms and I got to do their computer class. I used their love of all things "pop culture" to my advantage. Many of them created websites about their favorite artists or actors or even themselves *LOL* in a couple cases. It was also about the time that the Dirty South rappers started coming out...Some of it was good and some was just crap, but I listened and most of all was tollerant. One of the easiest ways ever to get a room full of teenagers to respect you more or less all at the same time...*LOL* BTW, I wouldn't complain too hard about today's pop culture...just wait till disco makes another appearance..

  i'm sorry if i offended. i meant no disrespect.

  No offense was taken, whatsoever. I encourage your frankness and honesty as opposed to being concerned as to whether or not you'll offend or hurt my feelings.

  The truth is the truth, whether it comes from YOU, those who are younger or another race or culture.

  I think my generation, especially, has had a problem with knowing how, when and where to draw the line between being good parents, and wishing to be friends with their children instead.

  I don't believe it is possible to be friends with your children, perse, as it clouds or blurs the line between what you share with them being your friend as opposed that which should never be shared, because of ones responsibility to the child. Never to allow them so much liscense over many complex issues that are presented in their young lives.

  I.E. sharing girlie magazines with your adolescent son, knowing that they are likely wishing to view such material, as they are not much different than most of us males, inheirently interested in naked women. Though I wouldn't condone his desire to view such material, nor would I condemn him for having done so, it would be an entirely different matter for me to actually purchase for his viewing pleasure, such materials as that is crossing the line between what is proper and what may possibly be assaulting his sense of moral character and perspective.

  So now, I am able to liken my having purchased Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas in a similar fashion as that of having purchased for his pleasure, pornographic material.

  No offense taken, whatsoever as this has now been more thoroughly defined in my own mind, the depths and degrees to what it is I have done. With that new light of reality shining, I thank you for having helped me to see this from an entirely new perspective. Thanks Doogie
