Are you a Dog person, or a Cat person?

    Talesin,

WE were surprised at just how much the Animal Welfare League charged for our two cats!! It was about 10 years ago and we paid $120 to bring them home. We paid for them both to be spayed (when they got old enough---and by the Vet) and the AWL was supposed to reimburse us when it was done. We submitted the receipts twice, and never saw a penny of it.

We have four awesome kitties that we rescued at different times. The two oldest are named Iris(Siamese) and Ceasar(Burman), the two youngins are Rocky (which looks JUST like Peppermints cutie), and Echo(black kitten). I'm a big fan of getting animals from the shelter, but the last two we got from a private rescue program which was MUCH cheaper. $25 per cat and that included the spay/neutering. At the shelter it's more like $50 each. I'm not so much of a dog person. Cats suit me because I just love that "take you or leave you" attitude they have. They can come snuggle and purr, and then go off and do their own thing.

That's so funny. Kind of like a man, huh? haha

Yeah, I appreciate the kittie's take you or leave you attitude and self-sufficient way. But, if I had a yard, I'd have a dog. I raised European Doberman Pinschers for years and miss them.

Hey peppermint your orange cat looks a lot like ours. He even has freckles on his nose which I thought were weird glad to know other cats have them too.

    He's a pretty cat peppermint!

    We have 3 cats.

Maxmilian San Queue our buff colored Manx (no tail) who was my previous avitar. 11-1/2 yo and diabetic. At 17 pounds he is buff, but he's currently almost 19 pounds. One of the most awesome cats I've even known.

Dominic is solid black, long and sleek panther who is my current avitar. He is in his pose as "Dominic the Tailor" as he loves to help me with sewing projects. He is 5 years old, and buff at 11 pounds

Princess is, well, Princess. She is a black and mackeral tabby with white paws with black pads, white bib and belly. She is so soft and plush.... similar to chinchilla fur. She is 2-1/2.

I love all animals great and small. I enjoy dogs and have had some awesome dogs as pets. I'd have birds, but my cats' hunter instincts are too well developed. I have had the privledge to scratch a cougar on his nose, behind the ear, and under the chin to hear him purr. When I heard a rattlesnake in the brush, I froze but looked hard so I could see him. I got to hold a pet tarantula and was just in awe by it! Biting insects... blood suckers... can go bye bye as far as I'm concened... I have no use for them. But the rest of the insect and critter world are facinating. Bugs, snakes, lizzards, rodents etc.

That's really wrong that they didn't reimburse you. I mean, the purpose is to encourage folks to NOT purchase animals from stores (thereby supporting puppy & kitten mills), and to help those who may not have the $$$ to spay/neuter. That sucks, but nonprofit is famous for not following through with paperwork (lack of professionalism, short-staffed, etc.). No wonder so many NGOs lose their funding; a lot of them don't fulfill their mandates simply because they are administratively challenged.

The SPCA here used to help with costs, but they don't any longer. So I would get a cat from a private program, and the dog I can get from friends. I have a couple of friends who sell puppies, just a litter here & there. They have each offered me a freebie. ;) Blue Healer or border collie. Nice choices, huh? If not that, I will get a Heinz 57. :D

It's expensive, but I could probably scrape up the initial costs. (Female cat about $200 incl. all spay & needles, dog would just need needles & parvo.)

At this point, I'm more concerned about a backup fund for illness. When my cat was sick a few years ago, it cost me $300. at the drop of a hat, just for one visit. Which isn't much to pay out for a friend who never let me down once, and was my constant companion for 16 years. I couldn't afford emergency medical care at this point, and I don't think it's fair to have a pet get sick and let it suffer ...

But I really miss my cat ... it's the first time in my life that I haven't had a feline companion to boss me around! ;) boo hoo RIP Squealer

Hearing the cat-bird owners,,, I have a cute bit ....

My aunt B had a beautiful Siamese cat, Tabitha. She lived to be 23! Anyhoo, though, this cat was soooo calm, she would lay on her back in your arms and let you scratch her belly.

B also had a bird (a cockatiel or budgie), and the cat and bird were best friends. I kid you not! My mom has a picture of the cat laying down, with the bird sitting on top of her head. They were so cute together. :)

That marmalade cat piccy was so cute, I could hear the kitty purring!

Hey, if you are one of my American cousins and reading this, you know who it is. Send me a PM. :D
