How much does the Watchtower organisation give to charity? Is there an organised effort to better the world in any way?

Simply put, they don't. They keep all their charity in the 'family': for the "World Wide Work" which will cure all of mankinds ills.

Heaven help anybody who needs anything in the meantime.

When I first became a JW in 1972 that had a 55minute talk outline that basically said it's not agood idea to give to charities since they were of the world and run by corupt people that pokected most of the money. Does anyone remeber that talk outline?

I said a terrible thing to a Christian Aid worker many moons ago, when approached to give money.

I basically said that as one of Jehovah's Witnesses I don't give money to other organizations connected with false religion, regardless of whether the money is going to the needy.

She turned on her heel and asked where that was written in the Bible.

She had a good point actually and I simply walked away feeling smug.

    How dreadful

Well said, Essie. I had heard all the talks about not giving to charities and didn't agree deep down inside. Leaving folks with a magazine does not ease the world's problems by any means.

When known charities collect money or canned goods, how often do we see things like homes being built, food baskets being given out, soup kitchens in operation, and many $$$ sent to disaster victims? So despite the fact that there are those relatively few who may "pocket the money", the fact that MUCH of the donations do get to those in need.

It's just one more "rule" that the WTS cooked up to "make sure of all things" and all that the JWs have will be directed to the Org.

The Society has tried to put "worldly" charities in a bad light alluding to corrupt handling of funds or exorbitant administration fees.

How much of the JW's donated money actually goes to the "World Wide work". Administrative costs in most charities include, cost of staff, cost of property, equipment etc. I would venture to say that at least 40% of donated monies goes directly to administrative costs. (40% is just a wild speculation on my part but feel it could be higher).

Red Cross charged less than 9% for their tsumani relief fund.

Who is really is the faithful ... oops the corrupt charity?

What I find totally objectionable and hypocritical about the WTS is the fact that, as Uzzah mentioned, they have such a negative and condescending attitude toward Worldly? charitable organizations, and practically coerce R&F JWs into not donating to any other charitable organization but the WTS. Yet when a JW falls into dire circumstances, the WTS (and the local congregation) will direct them to take advantage of Worldly? programs (except the Y ) and will seldom, if ever, do anything on an organizational level to assist their own people. Any assistance is provided by individual JWs, and is not endorsed by the WTS or a congregation per se.

The WTS's charitable status is an intake-only design.

    Absolutely nothing.

Surely you jest. They absolute despise anyone or any organization that tries to make the world a better place, because by doing so, that delays judgement coming upon those "who ruin the earth". If everyone in the world would only stop doing charity work and let the earth get so polluted that you can't see in front of your face, then Armegeddon would come really quick and kill 99.9% of the earth's population.
