I know about the Guardian articles, and the UN press release, ect. But did any major paper carry an article that I could see the archive to? I suspect that if such happened I would know about it already, but just in case I missed it. Thanx

Jeff, it didn't make national headlines if that's what you're wondering. For non-JW's it's really not a big deal. Religious groups become NGO's all the time. To concider it newsworthy, an editor would have to know of the JW's position regarding the UN, would have to make sure the public knew, and would have to make sure the public cared. Most times I doubt that even one of those criterea would be met, hence no reporting of the "debacle".

Yeah, big news in JW-land is barely a blip to the rest of the world.
For instance, Crisis of Conscience is an excellent "coming out" book for exiting JW's. But I have heard from never-JW's that this book did not touch them as deeply. I figure, JW's are indoctrinated constantly about the evils of the world and the purity of the organization. When that house of cards comes down, it can be devastating. For the rest of us, petty corruption and imperfection in our leadership is expected. Welcome to the rest of the world, folks!

Yes min that is kind of what I meant - mainstream American papers that would carry weight here in this country. I don't know anything about the Guardian paper - is that a big one in UK? No offense intended just don't know.

Yes, the Guardian is a very good, mainstream newspaper and is respected as such in the US. If the person you are talking to has to see it in the New York Times before they believe it...shame on them.
Between the Guardian's article and the UN's letter that should be sufficient to convince a thinking person. If they have to see it in the Watchtower, don't hold your breath.
