Why is the UK suddenly doing a lot of tourism advertising in the US?

Lately I have noticed that there are a lot of tourism ads coming from the UK leading me to believe that American tourism dropped off in the UK.

Is it the weak dollar or do you think that something else is involved? More ad money to spend? Ideas?

They are trying to capatilize on the upcoming marriage of Camilla and Charles, hoping the Americans will flock over for the nuptuials.

This is because no one in the UK could give a shite.

Mainly they advertise taking in the plays in the local theatres, drinking a few in the local pubs, and touring the countryside.

Yet the advertisers mention nothing about the upcoming wedding. If that is the reason for the sudden spike in advertising, do you suppose they believe mentioning the wedding in the ads would be bad form?

I think this has a lot to do with the low value of the dollar. Right now a person in the UK can travel to the US for a lot less than in the past.

I think the dollar. We have adverts telling us not to buy states in America because the yocals still have to live there and it's not their fault that their currency is going like the Lira.

It is the dollar though. I would hate to pay our prices and only be getting approaching a 0.5 exchange rate

The last one we had escaped and got in next-door's garden - made a right mess. I think it's true what they say about them being unsettled if you take them out of their native habitat.

I think it`s the dollar, but also something more.

We had a large drop in tourism due to 9/11. It`s our 1st or 2nd (not sure) largest industry. Serious US $$$ lost in tourism the first year after, and the industry is NOT bouncing back quickly.

More people have been afraid to travel, and the tourism industry here is spending a lot of bux to lure the American tourists back.

My EEC subsidy means that my haggis farm is doing very nicely thank you. Once they're neutered they make delightful pets.
