The Concept That Holds Jehovah's Witnesses Captive.

They will believe or do whatever they have to if it saves their own skins. If that means endorsing mass genocide then they just shrug and say, 'OK!' They believe that they will live forever if they pretend to believe whatever the Bethel Boppers tell them - whatever that is irrelevant to most of them.

And then they'll swear up and down the WatchTower Society is not a cult.

it is very uplifting and encouraging with so much trash out here today it is rather good to read. plus is inspired by god so it must be good!

How long have you been studying? You seem very familiar with the lingo for someone who is not already a 'witness'.

They are captivated by a mirage, a delusion. A nameless, faceless, all-kinowing entity---the FDS. Not a JW can reasonably explain what the "slave" really is. Really.

My JW neighbor who brings me magazines to read, was at my house briefly last night. She said that the Watchtower Mag was prophecy, the Awake is current events. As having been a JW for 30 years I was a bit taken aback. "The Watchtower is Prophecy" I was so stunned when she said this I said nothing. Now this lady has no clue I was a JW for 30 years up until 3 1/2 years ago. As far as she is concerned she was talking to a worldly return visit.

I never told anyone the Watchtower was a magazine of prophecy while I was a witness, could it be this is something new they are encouraging the JW's to tell people? Have any of you ever heard this comment before? I thought that was pretty weird. Will ask her more about it on Friday when she comes for a bible discussion on 2 Samuel 24 about David and 70,000 innocent Israelites being killed by Jehovah.

She is so heart felt I fell for her, because I have walked in her shoes not long ago. She is throughly brain washed that is for sure.

    Balsam,

I've never heard that comment before nor the advice to use it. It's true that the WT does deal with deeper (no laughing) bible subjects and that often means prophecies, however, to say it is a magazine of prophecy is a stretch even for a strong dub.

This topic is interesting, and can be answered from several perspectives.

    1. The Watchtower Society is the only true religion.
    2. The End is very soon, and JWs are the only ones who will survive.
    3. Questioning the WT is like questioning God, and shows lack of faith.
    4. Shunning by entire social/family network keeps many captive.
    5. JW doubts is always a person's weakness and lack of faith.
    6. Satan will do anything to stumble a JW; must keep the blinders on.
    7. Observed wrong doing in org is imperfect humans, not fault of WT.
    8. WT receives "new light," which is different from mistakes or flip flops.

I'm sure there are more concepts that holds JWs captive, and some of the ones I've listed have already been posted by others.

    JAVA,

I pick #4 of your list. There's my problem.

I bought the book. It was inexpensive. It is an easier read that COC and not meant to compare with it. It is a good book and would be a good starter book for someone just thinking of leaving. I know I found COC too hard to read 3 years ago when i first started reading XJW literature.

There are no revalations in the book but for someone who is entrapped by the WTS, it is a good starting point.
