Does disfellowshipping work?

You get a bonus of two answers:

I'm not Df'd, and I'm leaving as a stand for the survival of the world - against religious fundamentalism, pessimism, and intolerance.

However, Df'ing does not work as anything other than a fear to keep people in the organization who don't really want to be there. Df'ing a 'repentant' person does nothing but damage them emotionally. Df'ing an unrepentant person does nothing - for them. It promotes unity (i.e. control) in the congregation.

This world needs community, not control; leadership, not power; growth, not fear.

I left because the elders were calling me and would have ended up DFing me.

I left because we could not agree on who should run my life...them or me...then I was df'd because they lost control over me...oh yea, and because I just would not repent and abandon my evil ways....one of which I am now married to.

In my opinion, the DFing thing is where they cross over the line into cult-like behaviour. It's one of the main things that made me not want to be a part of it anymore, even though I was never subjected to it myself.

I left because I was DF'D. Then was reinstated, and left just because. Then I wanted to return after 15 years, and got DF'D again, which I absolutely did not agree with. Inactive for 15 years! Give me a little time to get my shi* together please. The only thing it does is make the person go further away from the organization. Look at this as encouragement they say. Its a short period of time compared to what you will get in the end! Ok, correct me if im wrong, but did anyone ever take it as encouragement? Give me a break.

I just DA'd myself. I hate their hypocritical lies. They just treated me like total crap too.

I left because I realized it was based on lies.

However, the fact that I was required to shun my dad, who also left for conscientious reasons, created no small amount of cognitive dissonance over the years, which may have been a contributing factor to sitting down and thinking about it.

However, I think the issue was forced by my gearing up to pioneer and my turning 25, rather than directly by the disfellowshipping policy.

I just loved the facial expression on everyone's face when I walked in. I felt like the prodigal son. Except I wasn't sorry for anything I had done. The Guns n Roses t-shirt just fit the situation. Axle would have been proud.

I didn't just leave.... I cut the satanic WTS's opressive chains and told the elders that the Governing Body is controlled by demons and they are not the FDS. DF'ng and shunning only works on victims who can't see the cult for what it is.
