Big ornate churches are not beautiful to them, they are a symbol of Satan. For them, neo-pagans meeting up in groves has no beauty, just Satanic overtones
Slightly off point here I know but I have just come back from Barcelona, (been there for the weekend), and one of the many places I saw and was indeed one of the highlights was Gaudi's unfinished catherdral; the building is amazing and is one hell of a piece of architecture; I cannot believe we were all taught that these buildings were evil and that we should 'beware of wolves appearing in sheeps clothing'.
It beats the old flourescent lights anyday doesnt it; and yes indeed they are training centres, at least two meetings each week are training related are they not?

Sherry,
You are so right. If JWs really did listen to their heart they would run. But no, it is treacherous
Eman,
I didn't realise her Ladyship felt that way. Strange how I only just managed to put it into words.

Satanus,
I didn't think of it that way, but yes, they do reject spirituality itself. Anything not written in black and white isn't acceptable. A "feeling" is demonic. Blah!

Where did the Watchtower Symbol come from, Honesty?

And places, how many of thought that a Bethel trip was like a pilgrimage to Mecca?
So true. "Have you been to bethel?" "Her son went to bethel....wooohoo"

Java,
I'm Wiccan so I don't find an issue with dogma, really. I like the unitarians aswell.
There are ways to make worship beautiful, traditional and meaningful without having to "join a church"

Remember, the JWs don't worship, they 'study.' So how can their worship have symbolism when it is non-existent.
Annie
In fact the WTS has often taught that JWs aren't attracted to the "emotional" but the "accurate knowledge" that is learned at the KH. I missed the emotional! Apparently I'm not alone in this.
That is my point - its about head knowledge and not spirituality. They say someone is spiritual if they attend meetings...or if they go out on the ministry. That isn't spirituality IMHO.
You hit the nail on the head when you said about how they focus on the wrong thing at the memorial. It has nothing to do with the "meaning" of Jesus resurrection, just his death, and their cultish ideas about it.

Marshal,
JW halls are like training centres. They teach people to read, to speak other languages (even signing), to stand up and talk, to look good in public, to flick through the bible quickly....and where in all of that is the heartfelt spirituality? I know that some JWs are moderately spiritual by their nature, but mostly that is suppressed by the Watchtower rules and stamped in fears.
